Sometimes, people rely on what their eyes see too much that they miss the truth about things.
When we see things that are outside of what usual and ordinary are, human nature tends to make us think of various assumptions. The worst part is that these assumptions being made are not exactly right.
The things that we usually get wrongly are those things that we conclude entirely based on what we saw. Our eyes can be deceiving, and sadly, not everyone knows about this fact.
One black woman had enough of the wrong stories about her and her white daughter.
She decided to finally take action and clear the questions and correct the wrong assumptions, but having to tell all the people she crosses paths with can be very exhausting and impractical.
Therefore, she thought of a simple but effective way to address all the inquiries in people’s minds.
All it took was a simple video with her daughter to clear things up.
Jeena Wilder, a mom from Dallas, Texas is black. But her 6-year-old daughter is so white that people are starting to think that they are not really mother and daughter after all.
As it turned out, the young girl is not her biological daughter but her and her husband’s adopted daughter. Jeena and Drue took the girl in when she was just four years old, and she actually came from relatives on Drue’s side.
Jeena made the video with her daughter and shared it with her thousands of followers on Instagram.
“There were specific questions people would ask like, ‘Are you the nanny? Are you babysitting these kids?'” Jeena said in an interview with Good Morning America. “No. These are all my children…all four of them.”
Jeena and Drue have their own biological children—a 7-year-old, a 3-year-old, and another 6-year-old. They are not white so people are not too inquisitive about their relation to her, but these people are too keen on assuming things about her and her adopted daughter.
“Instead of thinking of other avenues on how people can become mothers, they automatically assume,” she added. “It’s saddening.”
Through the video she posted, Jeena hoped to clear everything up so people would stop assuming and asking questions.
Jeena shares how sweet her adopted daughter is and she hoped people would see that side of their relationship and not other things, like their skin color.
“She’s really sweet and super forgiving and is the happiest child,” Jeena said. “She loves being around people and she is my social butterfly.”
Jeena is very proud of her children and has always been happy to share with the world her life as a mom of a transracial family. People online appreciated her advocacy and are happy to see that the woman knows what is right not only for her but also for her children.
