A young boy in Louisiana is being hailed a hero after helping deliver his baby brother at home…and saving his mom and brother’s lives in the meantime.

The 10-year-old literally saved his mom and baby brother’s lives all with quick thinking and a calm demeanor. Jayden Fontenot is the hero without a costume or cape. Bravery doesn’t always need a mask.

Jayden’s mom, Ashly Moreau, was 34 weeks pregnant when she woke up one Friday morning to go to the bathroom. She was in a rush to pee and while in the process of doing so, her water broke. Her baby’s feet were hanging out.

Unfortunately, Ashly’s fiance had gone to work already.

The only people at home were her kids. An 11-month-old daughter and her 10-year-old son. Ashley told KPRC 2:

“The scariest thing I’ve ever been through in my life.”

She called out for Jayden who ran to the bathroom only to see his mom needing help with his unborn brother’s feet in full view. Ashley says it didn’t look like her baby was breathing. In fact, the feet were purple. Jayden ran to his grandma’s where they called the police.

Where most people would panic or freak out, Jayden acted on instinct.

When Jayden got back to his house, he found his mother on the floor getting ready to deliver. Ashley says he took a deep breath and asked her to tell him what he needed to do and he would do it. What a lad.

Jayden wasn’t even close to being scared.

He was calm and very brave. Ashley told him that they needed to get his brother out as fast as possible because he couldn’t breathe. Jayden was not going to lose his baby brother and mom.

He helped by gently pulling on his brother’s leg as Ashley pushed with what remaining strength she had in her. They kept at it until the baby came out. His brother wasn’t breathing.

Jayden dashed for the kitchen to get a nasal aspirator to help clear the baby’s airways.

Emergency medical responders finally arrived helping get mom and baby to the hospital. The doctors said that had Jayden not done what he did, his baby brother would have passed away from lack of oxygen, and his mom from bleeding out during delivery.

Ashly and her newborn were already in the hospital when her fiancé, Kelsey Richard, learned the news. He told KPRC 2:

“You don’t hear about stuff like this. It’s amazing how brave and everything he was … calm, collective. He saved their lives, he’s a hero.”

It’s so impressive even viewers were amazed,

“Angels come in all shapes and sizes that young boy right there is an angel.”

Not everyone, even adults, would have reacted the way this brave young man did. He relied on instinct, using his head instead of freaking out to make sure that his mom and baby brother would both make it out alive. And at ten years old too!

He certainly is a hero.

Jayden displayed exceptional bravery and poise in handling a situation so serious that two lives depended on it. This could be the start of a very promising medical career. Or of a caped crusader.

Jayden has a jaw-dropping story to tell his little brother one day, who will no doubt always look up to him. I mean, he did help deliver him after all.
