It’s every parent’s worst nightmare for their children to be in harm’s way. Even leaving the kids with a babysitter can have any parent worrying a bit.
It’s understandable why it’s not the easiest thing to trust someone with the livelihood of your babies. But eventually, parents have to take a leap and get over the fear.
But eventually, parents have to take a leap and get over the fear. A Washington State family got the scare of a lifetime while their kids were under their babysitters watch.
8-year-old Delicia, 10-year-old Brenden, and 22-month-old Brenden Wright were enjoying a typical day at the park near their babysitters home.
While they were playing at the park a strange man came up to both Delicia and Brenden, trying to make friends with them.
They both knew they weren’t supposed to be talking to strangers and just ignored the weird man.
Delicia and Brenden continued the park fun until it was time to go. But that’s when things took a horrifying turn. Brenden was watching over their baby brother in his stroller while their babysitter was away for a moment.
That’s when the strange man came back up to Brenden and swiped their baby brother Owen right out of his stroller!
The man went running off with their brother and that’s when the two siblings took matters into their own hands.
8-year-old Delicia ran after the kidnapper while 10-year-old Brenden ran right behind with the stroller.
The man saw he was being chased down and decided to drop the 22-month-old baby in an alley before he’d get caught. The entire scene was caught on a nearby surveillance camera and the footage is truly terrifying.
Thankfully, the extremely brave act of both Delicia and Brenden scared off the kidnapper.
Who knows what would have happened without their heroic impulse. Just when this babysitter turned their back, the kidnapper saw an opportunity to steal this baby right out of its stroller. It’s absolutely terrifying to think that people really look for that kind of opportunity but that’s reality.
You’ve got to stay super aware of your surroundings even at a neighborhood park… It’s certainly better to be safe than sorry.
Fortunately, Delicia and Brenden were able to act quickly enough to make a scene and scare the kidnapper. It’s rare for an 8 and 10-year-old to be so brave in such a scary situation. But they knew they weren’t going to let that horrible man take their brother away.
Delicia and Brenden were later interviewed by ABC News and talked about their courageous act.
Delicia told the interviewer that even though she was scared she had to run and scream after her brother. That takes some serious guts. Brenden told the interview that he wasn’t scared and added,
“I was chasing him (the kidnapper) so I could get him (baby Owen) back”
This brave brother and sister saved their baby brother with their bold instincts.
The bond between siblings is truly one of a kind. It’s like an unspoken oath you make to always look after one another.
The Wright family can rest peacefully knowing Delicia and Brenden saved baby Owen all by themselves.
When Owen gets old enough to realize what his siblings had done, he’ll know just how lucky he is to have them as his big bro and sis.
Way to go Delicia and Brenden for being the bravest kiddos around!
