Being a kid is supposed to be the most worry-free time of your life. A time full of fun games and laughter, but when kids run into bullies it can make their childhood absolutely miserable.
Bullying comes in all kinds of forms like physical, verbal, emotional, and now there’s even cyber-bullying.
No matter what kind of bullying incident it is, it can still have a very negative effect on kids’ and teen’s self-esteem. The truth is, it’s a cruel world out there and it’s every parent’s worst nightmare to have their child be bullied. A 6-year-old named Gage from Salt Lake City Utah was so excited to start first grade.
But that excitement soon disappeared when he became a victim of bullying.
His so-called “friends” and classmates constantly teased him about his protruding ears.
They would call Gage ‘elf ears’ and other awful names that made him more and more self-conscious.
Gage’s parents Kallie and Tim Berger, were devastated to know their son was being bullied about his appearance. His mother Kallie told Inside Edition,
“He just gets really down on himself and he thinks he’s not good enough”
Gage would come home from school heartbroken and wishing he could change the way he looked.
He would even stand in front of the mirror pushing his ears back to see how they’d look.
As much as Gage’s parents assured him that his ears were perfect just the way they were, they knew the teasing was taking a toll on him.
So that’s when they decided to meet with plastic surgeon Steven Mobley to get an osteoplasty consultation.
Young Gage wanted to do anything that could change the way his ears looked, so they went through with the surgery.
Gage was a bit nervous to get the surgery like any 6-year-old would be but his parents were there supporting him every step of the way. He brought his favorite stuffed tiger along with him on the journey, who he said was also going through ear surgery.
After the procedure was done, Gage waited to unwrap his brand new pair of ears.
When he came in for the big reveal Surgeon Mobley handed him a mirror to take a look at. Gage was overjoyed and said with a big smile on his face,
“Oh my gosh!”
Gage was over the moon about his new ears and his gleaming smile said it all.
You could tell he immediately felt more confident in himself. It was amazing to see Gage’s entire personality transform. Now, he won’t ever have to worry about any bullies calling him mean names like “elf ears” again.
But more importantly, little Gage loves the person he sees in the mirror.
Plastic surgery cases like this are the perfect example, that certain transformations can truly help the way people see themselves.
At the young age of 6-years-old Gage can start fresh and stop letting his ears hold him back from having fun.
We’re so happy to see that the surgery went exceedingly well and to see Gage smile brighter than ever before.
