Miranda and Joshua Crawford love babies and want several children.
This North Carolina couple found themselves struggling to conceive. They turned to in-vitro fertilization and developed four embryos. By practice, doctors would often transfer two embryos into the uterus to ensure that a baby would be conceived because the other would fail most of the time.
They had their daughter, Joslyn, on their first try.
The couple wanted another kid, so they called in their doctor once more to use the remaining two embryos. Unfortunately, Miranda had a miscarriage after nine weeks. Still, the couple did not lose hope.
The couple stretched out the possibility (and money) that they could have to make this possible.
Since their insurance covered most of the cost for IVF, they tried it one more time. This time, they got six healthy embryos. Their doctor, Dr. Seth Katz, transferred two embryos to Miranda’s uterus.
Then, something extraordinary happened.
Both embryos split into two, and all four developed. So instead of expecting twins, they were now expecting two sets of them! The couple and their doctor couldn’t believe what had happened.
This was both exciting and worrying news.
While it was very rare to have two sets of twins making this a miracle of some sort, it was also very risky. According to Dr. Katz, her heart sank a little because she knew this was a high-risk pregnancy.
Even Miranda and Josh knew of the risks.
The couple is both professional nurses, and they haven’t heard of this in their field. They weren’t sure if Miranda could deliver all four healthy babies. Some doctors told them they could opt to abort some fetuses, but the couple was determined to give birth to all four.
Nine months later, Miranda delivered two sets of healthy twins.
She went into labor six weeks earlier, but the babies were all fine and healthy. James, Jackson, Mia, and Madison came into their lives and turned their family of three instantly into seven.
Most people were amazed at how the couple handled this.
It’s true – raising a child is never easy, especially newborns. But having four newborns altogether? That’s another level. Good thing the couple worked as nurses; they got the experience to prepare for it. Plus, some help with family and friends.
More than a decade after, all four kids are happy and healthy.
The couple also welcomed another addition to their family, Maddox. They have three beautiful girls and handsome boys in their house. Miranda sometimes felt like a riot, but she described it as “controlled chaos.”
Looking at their loving family now, it was indeed a miracle meant for them.
It all fit in and made sense to them now. All the sacrifices and struggles they had, from the problem in conceiving to having to stretch finances when Miranda had to give up her job, were all worth it. They have a home filled with love, laughter, and, yes, some controlled chaos, too.
