Imagine having an amazing secret you want to share with your dad.

You want the occasion to be special. You want it to be memorable. And, of course, you want to record it so your family can play it back for years to come, reliving the joy you felt that day.

There are countless ways to share surprising info. Look at the lengths people are now going to to reveal the gender of the baby they are expecting. According to CNN, they are literally setting the world on fire to do so.

But you, you want this event to be intimate. Low key.

As you already know from the title of this article, it’s not about revealing the gender of a baby, it’s about revealing a pregnancy. To be precise, it’s about a man and his partner letting his father know he’s going to be a grandfather.

And they way they do this is unforgettable and unique. All they needed were a pair of headphones. And yes, they shared it with the world via YouTube.

The Setup

As you can see in the image above, the family is sitting around the table, and Grandpa to-be has been hearing impaired with the headphones. And his son is telling him the happy news.

Of course, he can’t hear now, which is the object of the game. He has to read his son’s lips.

See his intent look as he watches the words form in his son’s mouth. Those words are,

“You’re going to be a grandfather.”

To which Grandpa says,

“One more time.”

But it is far more than one more time before the message is conveyed. After the first go ‘round, he does recognize his son says the word “father” but that’s it.

He points at his son and says,

“Something about father.”

The Game Play

Throughout the video, the son just keeps repeating the same words.

“You’re going to be a grandfather.”

There is a lot of critiquing going on too. His father accuses him of obscuring his mouth with his hand while speaking, making it impossible for Grandpa to lipread.

He bats his son’s hand out of the way and says,

“You’re putting your hand in your lips.”

At this point, the mother-to-be speaks up as well. She tells her man to articulate better and say you are instead of you’re.

Which moves things in the right direction. Now Grandpa has 3 words. “You,” “are,” and “father.

Things start to move along now that the son is actually forming the words better with his lips. In a few more seconds, Grandpa is up to

“You are going to be…”

And the son just keeps repeating that, while his father has such a look of expectation and anticipation on his face.

Does that face not scream, “Just tell me already!”

Finally, the son repeats the original full sentence.

“You’re going to be a grandfather.”

But Grandpa still doesn’t get it.

“You’re saying like a thousand things!”

With a little more repeating and prompting, Grandpa gets stuck on,

“You’re going to be a great father.”

Which was probably a bit confusing for him. This is his son, who he clearly has a great relationship with, seemingly telling him he is “going to be” a great father. He already is a great father.

And the poor guy is getting a bit frustrated.

As his son repeats his words yet again, Grandpa cuts in and says,

“Josh! Your tongue is…”

And he waggles his finger in front of his mouth, imitating what I guess he feels is his son’s flapping tongue.

Much hilarity ensues and Grandpa makes a demand.

“Keep your tongue in your mouth.”

And finally, it all comes together.

And the Winner Is!

It’s a beautiful moment when Grandpa finally gets the message. He first jumps up and heads away from the table, clearly overcome.

“Oh, hell! Oh! Are you serious? Ohh!”

He then proceeds to enfold his daughter-in-law in a hug, rocking her back and forth. And then he turns to his son and crushes him in a bearhug.

The love in this family says everyone is the winner. And there is a baby on the way that will one day be buying shirts and mugs that say,

“BEST GRANDPA EVER.”
