When you have a baby on the way, there are LOTS of things to prepare for. First, you need to prepare yourself and your body.

Then you have to learn how to care for the baby once you have it.

Next, it’s time to prepare your home. That means getting a crib and room for the baby to sleep in and all the other items your child will need. You also need to baby proof your house so that it’s safe once your baby starts to move around.

Jesse and Maria Hulscher did all of that but they were unprepared for their furnace breaking down. They had just welcomed their second baby boy into the world.

They couldn’t wait to bring their new son home.

Just as they were about to do so their furnace broke down. This wouldn’t have been a big deal if it was summer time but it wasn’t. It was winter time and the weather was harsh in Willmar, Minnesota where they live.

To make things worse, a snowstorm was on the way. A cold home could be very dangerous for a newborn so they had to call the furnace repairman right away.

Jesse has his fingers crossed that he could find someone to come on short notice during the busy season.

“Instantly I panicked,” Jesse told Fox 9. “I have a two-year-old here, a newborn coming home in a couple days and this was before the big potential snowstorm.”

Jessie put in a call to Magnuson Sheet Metal hoping that they could help.

When Magnuson co-owner Craig Aurand picked up the phone, he could tell that Jessie was panicked.

“He said ‘the fan’s not working, the furnace isn’t working, my wife is in the hospital, we just had a baby yesterday,’” Aurand said. “I just said take it easy, we’ll be right there.”

Magnuson had someone at the house within 20 minutes and the furnace was fixed an hour after that.

But the company went even further than that.

While most people would expect a steep bill for speedy service during the busy season, that’s not at all what the Hulscher’s found on their invoice.

“Checked the mailbox today waiting to find an invoice from them and this is what I find,” Jessie wrote on Facebook. “Can’t thank them enough for the great service, speedy response time and amazing technicians. Businesses like this earn customers for life! Thank you Craig and your staff for the amazing experience! We will definitely be calling on your services again….just hopefully not to soon from now!”

Not only did they not upcharge the Hulschers, but they also fixed their furnace free of charge.

Their invoice only had a note that said: “No charge, take care of the new baby.”

“I was like, what? No. This can’t be real. And he’s like, ‘I know I can’t believe it either,’” Maria told Fox 9.

While Magnuson Sheet Metal wasn’t looking for praise for their efforts, they sure got it.

The story ended up going viral on the internet.

“We didn’t do it for the PR, we just did it to be good people. That’s it. Just to be nice to these people,” Aurand said. “That’s what this is about.”
