Have you heard of The Git Up challenge? It’s inspired by American singer and songwriter Blanco Brown’s hit song, “The Git Up“. If you listen to the track, you’ll be surprised at the creative fusion of hip hop and country music. Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, the young singer always loved hip hop and grew up listening to artists like OutKast.
But his love for country music stemmed from all those days spent visiting his grandmother in Butler, Georgia where they would listen to a lot of Johnny Cash.
His appreciation for both genres inspired a unique approach to making his own music.
While it can be quite risky for a new artist to experiment immediately with genres and styles, Blanco Brown proved successful and boasts collaborations with the likes of Chris Brown and Pitbull.
Apart from the success that met him as he dove into the music industry, his country dance steps and music have taken social media by storm, inspiring The Git Up challenge.
Users young and old would eagerly try their hand at recreating the dance steps seen in Blanco Brown’s music video and sharing it with the rest of the online community. With so many fun entries, it can be hard to narrow down which ones are the cutest and most delightful to watch.
It’s safe to say though, that this father-daughter tandem made the cut with their entry to The Git Up challenge garnering over 100K views.
Recorded right in the middle of their living room, the daddy-daughter duo did their best to mirror the steps in the music video, guided by the instructions in the lyrics. It was not a rehearsed video either – it was just two people having fun, recording themselves dancing.
You’ll notice how their steps aren’t always in sync but you’ll love how cheerfully the little girl sings along and how gamely the dad shows off his moves.
This, no doubt, has to be the daughter’s idea, with daddy being left with no choice but to oblige. He didn’t seem to mind, though. In fact, judging by the way he tried to keep in time with the song’s beat (as well as the smiles that would occasionally escape his lips), he clearly enjoyed dancing with his little girl.
There really is nothing more precious than a wonderful relationship between parent and child. It’s not always smooth sailing but the love, laughter, and smiles are always present. Moreover, the child grows up with the assurance that her parents will always be around to support and guide her, and that the concept of home will never be lost.
These two prove that it’s the simple things that strengthen this type of bond.
Staying home doesn’t always have to feel so boring and isolating (especially during this pandemic!) – not when the vibe you keep and cherish is always light, positive, and fun.
