One of the joys of having children is getting to see them grow into their own personalities and their own hobbies. When your kids are young, this probably means going to a lot of school plays and dance recitals. Obviously, it takes time to get good at anything we want to do and, let’s be honest, our children can do no wrong and we support them no matter what. It’s really other people’s children that are the issue, right? In every school play or recital, there are some kids who just have the performance down a little better than the others.

That’s the case in one video which has been spreading around the internet.

The clip comes out of North Carolina and features a talented young dancer named Johanna Colón.

Little Johanna has been taking dance lessons since she was two years old and hopes one day to be a famous and successful dancer. She and her fellow performers were set to perform “Respect” by Aretha Franklin after practicing for weeks. According to her mother, Elissa Colón, she practiced very hard—and she even got some background info from her mom:

“She really didn’t know who Aretha Franklin was, and when I told her about her and played it, she said, ‘Ooh, she’s got a lot of sass, mommy.’”

As it turns out, that extra knowledge gave Johanna an edge in the performance.

When the clip begins, all three girls have their backs to the audience with Johanna in the middle. After a moment, Johanna springs around and strikes the sassiest pose she can, truly channeling Aretha Franklin—and the audience goes wild. The other girls follow along as well, but Johanna steals the show throughout with her timing and attitude in the performance!

By the time the dance is over, the entire audience is losing its mind.

At the very end, Johanna even loops in the other two girls for a final bow.

The recital has drawn the attention of many major news networks including The Today Show, the Huffington Post and many others. Above all, it’s amazing to see so much talent and attitude in such young a dancer. Little Johanna truly lights up the stage and embodies the spirit of Aretha Franklin, one of the all-time greats of soul and pop music. For her part, Johanna has her own Facebook page and seems well on her way to fulfilling her dreams of dancing fame.

Thanks for an inspiring performance, Johanna!
