It’s one of those songs that no matter where it’s played, you and everybody else around will start singing.
Remember the movie Wayne’s World? The 1992 comedy has an iconic scene wherein the main characters are out and about in the car and are rocking it out to, “Bohemian Rhapsody“. When it’s on the radio, turn the volume up and sing your heart out.
It is the quintessential rock anthem that even until today, gets music lovers singing ala Freddie Mercury. Who doesn’t know Bo Rap?
From aspiring musicians at home, in the streets, YouTube singers and mainstream artists, they’ve all covered Bohemian Rhapsody. There are acapella versions, one from country star Jennifer Nettles, and even the band Panic! At the Disco perform the song live. Then there are dancers who use Bohemian Rhapsody for their performances.
These young women did just that. The incredible act took place at the Radix dance competition in Anaheim, California. Seven girls all dressed in black took the stage for a shot at Bohemian Rhapsody.
They call their company Project 21. According to Rumble, they are between the ages of ten and twelve. The familiar intro of the song comes on and this group of seven begin their jazz routine.
The first part is a slower dance which actually matches the pace and tempo of the song. That doesn’t mean it’s boring though because if anything, they are quite expressive seemingly matching the words to their movements.
Bohemian Rhapsody is six minutes of jazz, opera, rock, and pure awesomeness but the track was cut for this dance performance. The song switches the the operatic section and one of the girls seems to take on Freddie Mercury’s role. The others continue on bringing the lyrics to life with their moves.
Freddie was a huge fan of opera and the legend brought that passion of his in to Queen’s style giving them that unique sound and style.
These young women burst in to high energy as the headbanging rock section comes on making the crowd erupt in to cheers along to the music. This junior jazz group’s dance was choreographed by Molly Long, an industry pro, and when you add the amazing talents of these young girls, the stage comes alive.
They’ve got over a million views and we wonder if any member of Queen is one of them.
The dancers move along to the tempo and slow it down as the song comes to its end. This would make Freddie proud. The audience went wild and even the judges had to be impressed with these girls.
Project 21 took first-place in the “Junior Jazz Group” category for this competition and that championship gold is well deserved.
The 1975 classic was written by Freddie Mercury. Initially receiving mixed reactions, the song went on to become the band’s most popular song and eventually one of the greatest rock songs of all time.
It is the most streamed song of the 20th century and has been downloaded over 1.6 billion times with the music video having over 1.1 billion views on the band’s YouTube channel.
These girls have good taste and somewhere out there, Freddie is smiling. Congratulations, ladies.
