Kids are like sponges. They literally absorb anything they see and hear from grown-ups which is why it is important for parents to be a good example to their little ones if they don’t want their children to grow up the wrong way.
According to The Center For Parenting Education, being a model of good behavior is quite essential for kids to grow into polite and well-mannered adults. It may sound easy, but this is in fact a very difficult thing to do.
At times, there can be a slip of the tongue and grown-ups accidentally blurt out words that kids should not hear. They emulate whatever their parents or other adults in the house say which means that if they heard you say a bad word, they would probably try to say it out loud sooner or later.
An adorable girl wanting to try out words she just heard
Only recently, a couple uploaded a video on YouTube showing how kids can easily adapt to whatever the grown-ups are saying. The clip shows a cute little girl in a black shirt and tights, her hair adorably frazzled as she talks to her mom who’s behind the camera.
“Daddy, can I say a bad word?” says the little girl. She clearly looks hesitant as she says these words.
Mom easily says “No, you cannot say a bad word. That’s not nice”
The toddler still wants to try her luck and asks if she can ask permission from Daddy instead of Mom.
“Can I ask Daddy?”
Mom finally gives in.
“Okay, go ahead and ask Daddy.”
The little cutie asks Daddy again, but Mom just can’t resist asking what bad word her daughter wanted to try saying.
“Uhm… Oh shoot?”
Mom was a bit taken aback, probably relieved as well, and said “That’s it? Well, that’s not nice.” This goes on and the tiny girl continues to ask why she can’t say the bad words and Mommy just says “it’s not nice”.
The video clip is for only 40 seconds and yet, it has been viewed over 4.5 million times after only 11 days since it was posted. Wow!
Everyone in the comment section kept gushing on how adorably polite the little girl is. She held out for so long because of course, Daddy needs to approve of it, right? Great job, baby!
As further shared by The Center For Parenting Education, it is important to raise children right so they will grow into polite adults with manners and for them to become socially attentive. They cited some benefits that parents with mannered children will surely appreciate such as not having to worry about how their kids will answer the phone or about how they can feel relaxed even if their kids are enjoying play dates in other homes.
How to raise polite and well-mannered children
Aside from being models of good behavior, parents must remember to be patient when teaching their kids about manners and politeness. Teaching little kids about gratitude is also a great way to educate them.
Starting them young on lessons on manners is also essential for parents to remember. And even though you have begun with teaching at such a young age, do not stop as they grow up so it can be a way of life for them. It may be difficult to keep them in line at times, but it will all be worth it after seeing them grow into polite, socially attentive, and well-mannered adults.
Watch this adorable little girl’s video and prepare to be awed by her charm and innocence.
