Seeing a person return home from a tour of duty is one of the most touching things that the internet has ever provided. With each new clip that we see, it only reaffirms our appreciation for our troops and reminds us of the sacrifice they show each day. In one video, we see what it looks like for a little girl, not to see a war hero, but to see her dad come home.
Alexus London is a 5th grader who was surprised in the best way possible.
10-year-old Alexus goes to William Rall Elementary School in Lindenhurst, Long Island, NY. She knows what her dad does, especially since most of her life has been spent with her dad in the Army. On Valentine’s Day, she was given a gift that no physical object could ever compare to.
Army Staff Sergeant Daniel London has said goodbye to his daughter every single deployment he has been on.
“She remembers every deployment that I had,” Daniel London told ABC7.
When Alexus was only two, both of her parents were sent to Afghanistan for a 15-month tour. Her father returned over a year later, but was again deployed when she was 5-years-old. Finally, he was deployed most recently in June.
For Alexus, each time is harder than the last.
“There’s not words to explain how much I miss him,” she said.
Daniel has missed her 5th birthday and her 10th birthday, big milestones for a little girl. Still, he is determined to be the best father that he can be. His family always sends him things to remind him that they are thinking of him!
“We make sure to send him packages and take care of him when he’s over there so I know that she’s very happy and the fact that it happened for her on Valentine’s Day this is something that her future husband – it’s very hard to top,” Rosemary London, Alexus’ mom, said to ABC7.
On Valentine’s Day, he decided to surprise her and show up at her school.
As you can imagine, it was incredibly emotional! Walking into the back of the gym while she was in class, he waited with a bouquet of flowers. When she finally looked over from doing her pushups, it was magic. Sprinting over, she leaped into his arms and just stayed there, hugging him.
After their emotional reunion, he sat with the class and answered questions about the military.
The best part? This is going to be the longest they have been together! London isn’t expected to deploy again, meaning he gets to spend as much time with his family as he wants. For a kid who just wants to spend time with her father, finding out he never has to leave again is the best gift you could ever ask for.
In the time at the school, as the kids asked him questions, one kid asked what the hardest thing was. His response? Being away from his family. It looks like that tough season is finally over.
