It’s important to teach children to be assertive and to stand up for themselves from a young age. Teaching kids how to set healthy boundaries is a valuable life skill that will help them to have the capacity and confidence to say “no” when they are in uncomfortable situations later on in life.
But saying “no” is not a problem for this sassy little girl – she’s certainly no pushover!
In one video that appears to have been recorded at a dance recital, two little girls and one boy have the spotlight. But this isn’t just your ordinary amateur video of another uneventful school recital.
In fact, this video is so hilarious that it’s been viewed almost 2 million times.
The boy on stage is kitted out in a smart black and white tuxedo – complete with a bowtie and white carnation – while the girls are wearing gorgeous pink tutus and leggings.
Someone introduces the young dancers and compares the boy to Fred Astaire and the girl standing on the right to Ginger Rogers.
If you’re a fan of classical musicals, you’ll see why in a minute.
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers were famous for their dance routines together. They appeared in ten films, including such classics as 1936’s Swing Time and 1935’s Top Hat.
Astaire and Ginger were incredible actors with a smoldering sense of chemistry onscreen. They were also known to often play the role of a squabbling couple in their performances.
Even though these young performers are dancing to Gigi’s “Thank Heaven for Little Girls,” the girl on the right is definitely not all sugar and spice…
Shortly after the lights come up and the music begins, the little boy in the tuxedo holds his hand out to the little girl on the right. She grasps it and he twirls her under his arm – it all seems like it was choreographed and rehearsed.
When the boy moves onto the next part of the performance, however, all hell breaks loose.
The boy turns to the blonde girl on the left and proceeds to twirl her, too. But just watch what the girl on the right does. Her face falls as she crosses her arms and begins to pout in a jealous rage.
She’s definitely not happy about having to play second-fiddle!
The boy turns to the girl in the right again and offers her his hand, but the infuriated girl is not having it! She wants nothing to do with him.
In a comical show of jealous anger, she keeps her arms crossed and refuses to take the boy’s hand.
The little boy looks bewildered and repeatedly offers his hand. He gives her a look – as if to say “What are you doing?” She continues to give him the side-eye, completely ignoring his prompts to take his hand.
This continues for a little while, then turns to him and lets him have it!
With a stern look, she begins to scold him. She uncrosses her arms and wags her finger in the boy’s face.
The entire interaction between “Fred Astaire” and “Ginger Rodgers” is so funny to watch that the audience bursts into laughter. Although the popular video is quite grainy and hard to see, there’s no mistaking what’s going on here!
