Having a baby is a wonderful and amazing thing; whether planned or not, it is an exciting experience.
And luckily, with 9 months of pregnancy, there is lots of time to prepare.
But what if one day you went to the doctor and were told you would be giving birth in a matter of weeks when you never even knew you were pregnant in the first place?
That is what happened to Patty Taylor and her husband, Brad.
The pair had been trying to have a second child for two decades, but after years of no success, they had given up hope it would happen for them.
That is until one day, Patty noticed she had gained some weight in what looked like a pregnant kind of way.
She took multiple pregnancy tests and they all came back negative, so she decided to make an appointment with her doctor to check out what was going on.
That was when she learned that she was, in fact, pregnant.
And not only was she pregnant, she was almost due!
Just 3 weeks after that fateful visit to her doctor, Patty was back in the hospital for an emergency C-section, and soon, baby Leighafae was born.
Both mother and baby are perfectly healthy, and both are very happy too.
But how did Patty not know she was pregnant, you may ask.
Well, Patty has Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, also known as PCOS, and some of the symptoms of that can mask pregnancy.
Patty’s menstrual cycle was already inconsistent so when her period didn’t come for a few months it wasn’t something that worried her.
In fact, shortly before finding out she was pregnant, Patty and Brad took a once in a lifetime trip to Prague.
The couple had always wanted to visit the city and were ecstatic to finally go.
They spent every day of their 7 day trip walking around and exploring, Brad believes they probably walked 7 or 8 miles a day, every day.
It was a few days after returning home that the couple got the surprise of their lives!
They told their 20-year-old son what was happening and he too was excited for the news.
“I was honestly really excited.” Johnny explained, “I’ve always wanted a sibling, I just never expected it like this.”
The soon-to-be parents also told their baristas, at a local coffee shop they’ve been going to since the first day it opened.
The staff at Dry Creek Coffee Shop were elated at the news and decided to throw the couple a last minute baby shower.
Patty, Brad, and Johnny were treated like royalty as they sipped their favorite drinks with some of the wonderful people they had come to know and love who worked there.
Baby Leighafae is now 4 months old and is a regular at the shop with her parents.
The family of 4 is doing very well and loving every minute of their new lives.
Though Leighafae was a surprise, she was definitely a welcome one.
