No matter how many weddings you attend, there’s no fully getting used to witnessing a couple solemnly exchange vows and make official their commitment to spend the rest of their lives together. It’s always so moving, especially if you’ve seen their growth through the years preceding the big day.
It’s always such a beautiful sight, which is why it only makes sense for a fun celebration to immediately follow. The wedding reception isn’t just a big party for eating and dancing. It’s also when the happy couple further seals the deal with some “firsts”: the first bite of the wedding cake, the first toast, and of course, the first dance.
So what happens when someone unexpectedly joins in on the dance that’s meant for only two people?
Thankfully, it wasn’t a crazy, uninvited person that eagerly tried to “cut in”.
It was a welcome guest who had a very special place in the couple’s heart.
Seth and Nicole Funden, the newlyweds, are crazy about their Labrador, Eva. And the feeling is definitely mutual.
Eva isn’t just a pet. She’s family.
That’s why it comes as no surprise that when the couple decided to get married, Eva was among the first on the guest list. Everyone else invited to the wedding also knew just how close the couple were with the dog. So when it was time for the first dance, it took only a few seconds before the happy dog decided she wanted to be part of the moment, too.
Wedding guest Selena Mercedes shares, “They both spend so much time with Eva. They take her everywhere they go.” Everywhere includes being right in front as the couple said “I do” during the outdoor ceremony.
Typically, newlyweds and the wedding entourage come up with creative ways to spice up the wedding reception: a skit, a funny video presentation, choreographed dances, a flash mob, etc.
Seth and Nicole didn’t concoct anything extraordinary for theirs, but Eva did – sort of. The affectionate Labrador had something sweeter and more delightful planned, and this transpired with a little prompting from her parents.
As Seth and Nicole danced beautifully to “From the Ground Up” by Dan + Shay, they couldn’t help but notice their precious dog standing nearby so they waved her over.
Eva, of course, trotted over happily. The newlyweds couldn’t resist petting the happy Labrador in the middle of their dance, and eventually inviting her to jump up and join them.
It was the most precious thing, seeing the Labrador standing on her hind legs, with each of her parents holding on to a paw.
The happy family continued to dance slowly, with Eva wagging her tail the entire time.
Talk about an unforgettable moment! The guests loved every minute of it.

It was a first dance unlike any other, and it wasn’t just family and close friends who loved and appreciated the moment.
