However, there is always a catch with these devices. There is some sort of backlash, especially when everything goes out of hand or when they are used to committing a crime.

A family vacation turned sour when they found out that somebody seemed to be stalking them. How did technology play out in this story? The shocking discovery would make us think twice about the gadgets we have and the power they hold.

A vacation to the happiest place on Earth

The Gastons were on a family vacation in Disney World. They were looking forward to having a great time. After all, they are in the “happiest place on Earth.”

What they didn’t know was how the family trip they looked forward to would turn out to be one of their worst nightmares. And they found out about this a few hours into their trip through a cellphone notification.

Horrific notification

Madison Gaston noticed a notification on her iPhone. It said that her phone detected that an Apple AirTag was moving with her. She clicked on the notification, leading her to this image of a map.

It outlined everywhere they went and walked in for the entire four hours they were in Disney World. It started on their first stop within the theme park, and it just connected to every place they’ve been.

The panicked reaction

The family realized the danger this could mean to their family. They frantically shook their clothes and bags in the parking lot, then jumped into their truck and drove back to the hotel.

Madison checked her phone and saw that the AirTag was still in their parking spot, and it must have fallen when they shook off their belongings.

The Gastons reported the incident to the local sheriff, but the least they could do was file this report. They couldn’t file any criminal case since the family did not have the AirTag with them; thus, they could not trace who it belonged.

This incident turned out to be something Madison was aware of but never really realized how alarming it was until it happened to her.

The problem with AirTags

Apple created AirTag to help its users find easy-to-lose stuff like keys, phones, wallets, and the likes. A person can track where it is and even control and make it sound to find it quickly.

However, this AirTag could mean big trouble for all the wrong intentions when in the wrong hands. It has been reported that these devices were used for stalking, theft, and robbery.

While people voiced their concerns about how Apple created a monster in such a tiny device, the tech giant could only say and offer so little help.

Apple released a statement to ABC News with regards to this incident, saying:

“if users ever feel their safety is at risk, they are encouraged to contact local law enforcement who can work with Apple to provide any available information about the unknown air tag.”
