Hannah Langston was on the way to the birthing center. But as it turns out, her baby didn’t want to be born there.
Her baby wants to be born somewhere else.
18-year-old Hannah was experiencing the first stages of labor and was on her way to the birthing center with her husband, Christopher, and her mom, April.
It was Hannah’s first birthing experience.
Because of that, they thought labor would take hours or even days.
But Hannah needed a restroom, now.
On the way to the birthing center, they stopped by the Austell Fire Station for a bathroom break.
When Hannah stepped out of the car, she instantly knew she wasn’t going anywhere. This baby was coming out and this baby was coming out now.
Hannah and her baby were in good hands though. Not only were they at a fire station, they were at the fire station where Hannah’s father, Bret, was stationed.
Guess who helped deliver his own granddaughter?
You guessed it. It was Grandpa Bret!
Ten minutes after they arrived, little Adalyn was born at the fire station.
“I was like, this is not right, this is not what we have planned at all,” Hannah shared.
For Bret, this wasn’t the first time he has had to deliver a baby. They wish they could follow up and know what happened to the moms and babies.
This time around, he got firsthand info.
Adalyn’s mother, Hannah, was shocked she had to give birth at the fire station.
Although, at this point, Hannah and her family weren’t surprised at all.
“I joke with people, she was a surprise baby, she had a surprise birth, everything about her is just, a surprise,” April, her mother, said. “It was unexpected, unusual, but it was a blessing and I wouldn’t change it. Everything went well.”
Bret wasn’t the only overjoyed firefighter.
There were around a dozen firefighters who were on shift at that time and witnessed Adalyn’s birth. They couldn’t be happier to witness this unique event.
According to Austell Fire Captain Mitch Parrott that it was very unexpected but he was happy the birth happened in a place where everyone was family.
“We are more than just coworkers, we spend one-third of our lives together. We are like family here,” Captain Parrott shared.
Now, their family has grown by 1.
“She will always have a seat at the table. Usually the rookie is the last to eat, but I think she’ll get to go to the front of the line,” Grandpa Bret said.
Although it was a situation that she didn’t want to experience, Hannah did learn a lot about herself that day.
“That I am stronger than I think. I definitely feel a lot stronger now, after giving birth at a fire station,” Hannah said.
Motherhood will require that strength.
Hannah brought Adalyn back to the station after 12 days.
She also vowed to bring her to the station regularly to visit her grandpa and the other firefighters who helped deliver her.
It’ll be “cool” for Adalyn to see where she was born.
Adalyn is one adored little baby.
