When kids find something that piques their interest, trust that they’ll pursue it with determination.
That’s what makes them so wonderful – their tendency to be so passionate about something. Makes you realize just how much you can learn from them!
That’s why sometimes the toughest lessons to teach them are mostly about accepting defeat graciously, knowing when to give up and when to keep going, and channeling that energy and passion into something better when things don’t work out the first time.
And if they can get so driven about sports, and arts and crafts, imagine just how intense it can be when they begin having crushes!
Speaking of kids and their obsessive ways, check out this little girl and how she reacted when she thought she had finally found her soulmate.
The five-year-old and her mother were out shopping at an Alabama department store when she got swept off her feet – by a boy mannequin nonetheless.
Sporting a stylish shorts-and-shirt ensemble, the striking mannequin immediately stole the little girl’s heart. Apparently, he was her “boyfriend-husband.”
They must have hit it off immediately because she refused to part with him and even declared that they were headed for marriage. Her mother found it so comical and amusing that she couldn’t resist filming the interaction.
In true Disney princess fashion (impulsive when smitten – think Ariel or Anna from “Frozen”), the little girl turned to her mother and announced,
“He said he’s going to marry me!”
Feigning shock and ready to jump in with her two cents, the girl’s mother replied,
“He looks a little bit too old for you. He looks about five.”
Refusing to accept any misgivings, the defensive girl then insisted,
“I’m five!”
She definitely sounded like she was not going to let anything and anyone get in the way of their romance.
Expertly playing along, the young girl’s mom went as far as asking,
“Do you want to see if we can buy him, too?”
Clearly, the mom was kidding but at least the little girl didn’t throw a fit when she realized it wasn’t possible to take the love of her life home with her. She was not, however, leaving without a kiss. It was a funny moment to witness and luckily, it was all captured on video.
Perhaps she’ll stumble upon the story of “Pygmalion and Galatea” when she’s in school and remember the time she fell in love with an inanimate object herself. The little girl will definitely have a good laugh over her antics when she grows up and rewatches it. Perhaps her mom will even remember to share it with everybody else at her daughter’s wedding (if that’s the path she chooses to take when she’s older, that is.)
The five-year-old may not have gotten the happy ending she dreamed of but she did accept their fate with grace and dignity. Take notes, people!
That’s going to save you a lot of heartache in the future or at least make moving on much easier.
