Meet Dave, affectionately known as Uncle Dave or Grandpa Dave to his loved ones.

In a heartwarming scene, he sings to his grandson Joseph, a charming little boy with Down syndrome.

As Joseph nestles comfortably on Dave’s lap, he is serenaded with the soothing strains of “What a Wonderful World.”

The song choice is a timeless classic, released in 1968.

“What a Wonderful World” continues to be one of the most calming, iconic songs ever broadcast.

Penned by Bob Thiele and George Weiss, Louis Armstrong’s distinctive, gruff voice brings to life the beauty of our world.

Interestingly, the song wasn’t an immediate hit in America, selling less than 1,000 copies initially.

This was due to ABC Records head Larry Newton’s decision not to promote it, as he wasn’t a fan.

However, the song found immense success in the UK, topping the charts and becoming the biggest-selling single of 1968.

Grandpa Dave’s song choice was spot on.

In 1988, Armstrong’s recording was featured in the film “Good Morning, Vietnam” and re-released as a single, reaching a new peak at number 32.

The film is a cherished classic, and this tender moment between Dave and Joseph perfectly captures the song’s spirit.

Joseph was born with Down syndrome and also the most beautiful heart.

Typically, a baby is born with 46 chromosomes. Down syndrome, however, results from an extra copy of one of these chromosomes, specifically chromosome 21.

This condition, medically referred to as ‘trisomy,’ affects the baby’s physical and mental development, presenting various challenges.

Joseph seems to thoroughly enjoy the music.

Dave may not be a professional singer, but his love for the little boy shines through his performance.

As Down syndrome can cause developmental delays in motor skills, social/self-help skills, and expressive language skills, music can be a beneficial tool for children like Joseph.

Unbeknownst to him, Dave is aiding Joseph’s development.

The lyrics of the song are particularly poignant, reminding Joseph that the world can be a beautiful place.

They speak of the vibrant colors of trees and roses, the smiles of strangers, and the gift of love.

The song also talks about listening to “babies cry” and watching them “grow,” which hits your heart while watching little Joseph and his loved ones.
