How could anyone ever ignore this text?

Our grandparents have one of the most significant impacts on our lives. If we jog our memories to when we were kids, we always have beautiful memories with our grandparents.

This was especially true for those who grew up in a household where both parents were often at work. We were left in the care of our grandparents, and we didn’t complain because… hey! They spoil us!

But as we grew older, so did our grandparents. We see their hair whiter than ever, with more wrinkles on their skin than we could remember, and their bodies growing wearier. It’s sad to think about, doesn’t it? This is what makes the remaining days extra special.

Megan Elizabeth van Hoy grew up with her grandparents since her parents couldn’t afford for their family to live under one roof. But it wasn’t a sad childhood at all. In fact, she enjoyed those times she lived with her grandparents.

The moment when her parents could finally afford to have their own house, they moved in across from their grandparents’ house so that they won’t miss each other that much. Megan admitted that she was lucky to grow up with her grandparents nearby.

The Slumber Party Invite

While we get too excited about a sleepover with our friends, I bet not everyone would feel the same when it’s their grandparents who ask them to come over. However, it was one request Megan never had to think twice about.

She shared via her TikTok account how she received a text message from her grandfather saying:

“Hi, Megan! It’s grandpa. Would you come over and have a sleepover? I haven’t been feeling well and (I) miss you. We can order food and watch a mystery show. Love, Grandpa.”

Whose heart wouldn’t melt with that message?!

She quickly responded that she would come over and even asked him if he wanted anything for dinner. He replied with his favorites: applesauce, mashed potatoes, and strawberry ice cream. Megan happily obliged. Dear old grandpa even said his thanks and added that she was his favorite granddaughter. (To which Megan commented that she was his ONLY granddaughter!)

Megan arrived and shared dinner with her old man. She said that they watched his favorite black-and-white mystery show.

When it was time to go to bed, her grandpa led her to her room which he proudly showed because he had made it himself. He made sure that her room looked like her childhood room along with the doll her grandma made for her when she was a kid. He even left a flashlight in case she wakes up at night and gets scared of the dark. Aaawww.

Spend Time with your Grandparents

Megan’s grandma passed due to Alzheimer’s, and it is just her grandpa left. He is 92, and she recognized that they probably have limited time to spend together. She made sure that she spent time with him as much as she could.

In another TikTok video, Megan shared one of the most valuable lessons she learned from her grandfather. One should not only “live for the moment” but “live with your NOW with intent.”

We hope this story will inspire you to live today with a greater purpose.
