Husky leads owner to pile of blankets with newborn wrapped inside
I don’t think anyone expects to come across such a sight during an evening walk.

When taking your dog for an evening walk after work, the last thing you’d expect to come across is a newborn baby lying all by themselves.

But that’s exactly what happened in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The baby was discovered by a dog walker on The Mounds, off Shannon Road in Kings Norton at around 5:40 pm, and was possibly only hours old. He was fully clothed and wrapped in a blanket, and the mom was nowhere to be seen.

A dog named Hel is being praised as a hero after finding the baby. Hel and his owner, Terry Walsh, were taking a walk when the dog stumbled upon a pile of blankets tucked beneath a bush.

The dog walker quickly alerted the police, who took the baby to hospital where he could be properly cared for. Since he was found the day before St. George’s Day, hospital staff decided to name him George- and despite his time outside all alone, little George is doing great.

Now that baby George is safe and well, police have turned their attention to try and find the mother.

“Baby George is healthy and doing well. But sadly we’ve still not been able to find his mother. We’re very concerned for her and want to check she is doing okay, both physically and mentally,” West Midlands Police said. “This is our only concern right now, giving birth is a big thing and we’re concerned she will need medical help.”

It’s easy to judge in a situation like this, but the fact is, we have no idea what circumstances led the mom to abandon her baby in the streets.

Every parent can relate to the rollercoaster of emotions you go through during pregnancy and labor, and the body is put under a huge amount of strain.

Many women need some kind of hospital care after giving birth, which is why police are so intent on finding little George’s mother.

Finding the mom will also help police learn about the circumstances that led her to abandon her baby. They will then be able to offer help to get her back on her feet again.

Detective Inspector Neil Hunt, who is leading the investigation, said: “I am reaching out to George’s mother. You are my primary concern right now, and we really need to make sure you’re okay. I don’t know the circumstances around George’s birth but, as a parent myself, I know exactly how overwhelming becoming a parent can be.

“I’d also like to hear from anyone who was in the area between 5pm and 6pm last Thursday, 22 April. If you noticed anything or saw someone, please contact us as a matter of urgency.”

West Midlands Police also shared the story onto their Facebook page, with the same pleas for George’s mom to come forward.

The post ended up receiving over 2.3k likes and thousands of shares, as everyone did their bit to help reach the mom.
