But how can they explore if they’re required to stay at home most of the time? Well, there’s this activity that your kids would surely enjoy.

Lots of parents have actually done this and they made sure that their children were involved during the building process.

They are made from twine and bean poles. You’ll also be the one to choose the climbing plant that you’d like.

The good news is, a mom on YouTube shared how she and her kids made their own bean pole tent.

Make sure to have these materials:

  • Half a cup to a cup of beans to plant (It would depend on the size of your desired bean tent)
  • Twine
  • A wheelbarrow that’s filled with soil
  • Enough shovels and digging forks
  • Tall bamboo poles, between 10 and 15
  • Ladder
  • Roughly 10 stakes of various sizes
  • Wooden sticks

Here are the steps you should follow:

1. Of course, you need a perfect place where you will build it. So, choose a site with enough space. Make sure to make it free from twigs and leaves. And when it’s done, follow it up with marking the center of the teepee.

2. Laying out your circle is definitely important. You can do this by using a garden hose. As you do this, it would be nice if you would already choose if which part of the circle would be the door.

3. Preparing the soil is the next step. It should be about 12 inches wide in a horseshoe around the circle. According to the mom, you won’t need to dig where the door is going to be. Clean it and remove the grasses, then add about an inch of compost to the soil.

4. In the next step, you should add your first three poles in a tripod shape. Keep in mind that the poles should be in a triangle to prevent them from falling down. This is a bit complicated so you can refer to the video below for you to see how they exactly did it.

5. When the three poles are already established, that’s also the perfect time to add the rest of the poles. Press the poles into the ground and make sure they are secured.

6. In this step, you’ll need your rope. Wrap it around the tepee and to be specific, it should be in a counter-clockwise direction. It’s a must for the rope to be high up on the tepee so it would create a snug fit.

7. Use some smaller twine and place them between the bean poles and that’s where the beans would start growing up.

8. Plant your beans in the soil surrounding the tepee. It’s up to you if you would choose beans. You can also try peas, sunflowers, and many more. Don’t forget to cover the seeds with soil and water the entire area.

So that would be it! We won’t deny, it’s a bit complicated and arduous. Nevertheless, we’re sure that you would get the hang of it just like the other parents who have already built their own teepees.

Watch the video below so you would see how to build it!
