Do you ever wonder why children imitate their parents? You’d probably be surprised to know that it’s one of the first things a child learns. Imitation is an integral part of the learning process as it enables kids to learn the most basic habits, such as eating and communicating.
Children mimic even useless actions but it’s all a normal part of growing up
If you have kids, you know how funny – and occasionally annoying – it can be to see your kid imitate your every move! It’s perfectly normal and it helps children understand the world around them.
“Animals focus on getting the job done,” psychologist Mark Nielsen explained. “Humans seem to almost forget about the outcome and copy everything we see.”
By copying what they see, children learn new things and satisfy their natural curiosity.
Monkey see monkey do!
Sometimes children will even imitate adults to learn or hone their newly acquired skills, or simply have fun! Because they don’t really understand the world around them, children depend on their environment and learn by imitating what they see.
They’re no copycats who do it on a whim! When they copy what we do, kids follow their natural instincts and learn behavior patterns and try to fit into their environment.
Imitation is fun, interactive, and helps develop social skills
We already know kids love to imitate their parents but some children are better imitators than others. In this fun video, kids were asked to imitate their parents and the results were hilarious!
When asked to imitate his parents, one kid replied with ‘What does that mean?’ while another kid said she never did it in her life! Kids are such natural actors!
This is how your chug your drink like a pro!
Kids don’t imitate their parents only, it can be pretty much anyone! This little girl was having a great time with her uncle when he decided to teach her a little trick – how to chug her drink! She proved to be a fast learner!
“I feel like that was the uncle imitating her, she obviously knows what she is doing,” a YouTube user commented.
“You already know that’s the uncle who’s giving her her first beer,” someone wrote.
“I can’t get over her little chubby tummy hanging out of the swimsuit. Such a cutie pie!”
Don’t be annoyed if your kids copy what you do, but make sure you set a good example!
Children not only copy what we do, but they also model their behavior after their parents and cousins. They can repeat everything you say, mimic your facial expressions, and behavior patterns. At an early age, kids don’t make a distinction between good and bad behavior which is why you should pay extra attention and never set a bad example for them!
If their mimicking behavior gets out of hand ask them to stop.
Kids are impressionable
All kids imitate. It’s a natural skill that enables them to learn and experience the world in new ways. Don’t forget to be a good role model for them to follow and have some fun along the way!
All grown-ups were once kids, and we all had fun imitating our parents! It’s an integral part of who we are!
