“What’s the best thing in the world?” is a question that raises many interesting answers.
One of the most common replies happens to be “mom’s cooking”.
Interestingly enough, it’s not solely because of how delectable each dish is.
The explanation is pretty simple: a mother’s cooking is one of the best reminders of home.
Comforting and familiar, it has the magic to make even the toughest of days more bearable. You could say it’s one of the most effective pick-me-ups there is. Just the thought of that delicious smell filling the house is enough to
Usually, an appreciation for mom’s cooking only runs deep as the kids grow older. In fact, a lot of moms say the reason they love cooking so much is because it gives the kids a reason to keep coming home.
Toddlers and preschool age kids, on the other hand, are still in the “exploring” stage and with that comes a candidness like no other.
That’s why it’s highly entertaining to witness the younger ones react to that first bite.
There is absolutely no intention to offend or be disrespectful; kids and their candor are just really something else.
Hearing what they have to say is even more comical since they don’t mince their words.
There’s also another funny reaction you might want to watch out for. It’s the one where they actually feign satisfaction and delight.
Take this little girl who pretended to like her mom’s spaghetti.
Maybe she isn’t fond of tangy tomato sauce or the overall combination of ingredients, or maybe she’s not a pasta person. So she thought the best way to get through meal time on spaghetti day was to act like she enjoyed it.
Moms are well-trained in these matters, so it was already predicted that this little girl would react differently to the food. The mom innocently started asking her about the spaghetti and how her daughter liked it. The little girl responded by nodding and making seemingly convincing happy and contented sounds while her mouth was full.
But her facial expressions read otherwise.
From her nose scrunching up to coming close to gagging, her face just said it all.
She did not like it one bit.
But you’ve got to hand it to her. She didn’t spit any of the food out, nor did she resort to making retching sounds.
While reacting negatively to food isn’t something to immediately fault kids for, it doesn’t hurt to educate them on how to better handle aversion to certain tastes.
We love how politely this little girl handled her dislike for the food – not as subtle as she thought she was being, but respectful nonetheless. Perhaps she was taught to eat what’s on the table and not let any food go to waste. While there’s no telling how training in table manners is done in their home, one thing is certain – she dealt with it as best as she could.
Maybe someday, she’ll learn to love the taste of her mom’s spaghetti.
In the meantime, watch her amusing reaction below.
