The servicemen and women are America’s everyday heroes. Our military sacrifices so much to keep our country safe. The families of service members deserve more recognition than they currently receive for their sacrifices as well.
A child with a parent in the military lives a very different childhood than others.
Spouses, parents, and children of military personnel have to go for long periods of time without their loved one being home and safe. They have to go about their days as normal, but they are far from normal when they are constantly worried about their loved one. Adults understand their sacrifice, but it is much harder for children who do not understand why their parent is gone.
That is why the reunions between a military parent coming home to their child are so emotional.
Macy is the daughter of a Marine father. Her father was away for an extended period of time. Her parents have done an amazing job trying to keep Macy’s father presence around in Macy’s life. He has sent gifts that she would love, but the cutest gift she has is a stuffed toy that is in the image of her Marine father.
The entire video she carries it around, it must give her much needed comfort from her daddy.
Macy’s mother tells Macy that her father has given her a surprise. She asks Macy what she thinks the surprise is going to be and she quickly responds with her guess of,
“Cookies.”
“How many cookies,” Macy’s mother asks.
“Two,” Macy answers.
Macy is going to be shocked that she is getting more than cookies today.
Macy happily goes in search of her cookies but cannot find them anywhere in the house. So, her mom tells her to open the front door because it might be out there. Macy runs to the door but is too small to open it herself, so her mother does for her.
That is when Macy sees her surprise wrapped in a huge box! Can it really be filled with cookies?
Adorable Macy looks at the package and announces,
“There it is,” as she runs out the door screaming in excitement.
Macy quickly starts to unwrap her gift one handed. She is one-handed because she refuses to let go of her stuffed toy of her daddy.
Macy must be a daddy’s girl. Her mother jumps in to start helping her unwrap her gift. Macy looks at her gift in awe, she has no idea what it could be. Macy has a mind of her own and runs to the back of her gift to keep unwrapping. Her mother needs her back in the front though, so Macy can see what is inside.
Macy’s mother asks,“How do you get in it now? Can you knock on it and say cookies?”
Macy wants those cookies and quickly knocks on her gift, but she is about receive a much better gift, her daddy.
After knocking on her gift, her daddy pushes down a part of the box from inside and shocks his daughter. She gets so excited that she falls over on the steps as she yells for her daddy. She is so happy she cannot stop laughing, jumping up and down, and kicking her feet.
Macy also puts her toy up to show her daddy that she has had him near her this entire time.
Macy’s dad gets out of the box quickly and before you know it, Macy is wrapped in his arms once again.
Macy is one happy girl and keeps saying “daddy” over and over again in her excitement. Her daddy cannot stop giving her kisses and cuddles because he has missed her just as much or even more. It is not long before he is back on daddy duty as Macy instructs him into the house to go see something.
