Are some kids just born looking like a grumpy face meme? You betcha!

Just ask Hollie Wallis, whose daughter looked so mad when she was born that she couldn’t help but laugh at her surly expression!

Of course, the reason behind her daughter’s “angry” face wasn’t always a laughing matter. In fact, it was downright scary!

“Every time I look at her little angry face, I think about how close I was to not having her…”

At first, Hollie’s pregnancy was entirely uneventful – both mom and baby seemed perfectly healthy and normal. Until it wasn’t.

When she was 41 weeks into her pregnancy, it was obvious that her baby wasn’t coming into this world on her own. At the time, Hollie didn’t think much of t.

Both her sons were born late, so she wasn’t worried until she went to see her OB to schedule an induction.

“When it came time to do the ultrasound, I could tell by the look on his face that it wasn’t good news. ‘I can’t find any amniotic fluid,’ he said. My heart sunk.”

Hollie was shocked when she was told she had a condition called Oligohydramnios. Amniotic fluid is a baby’s lifeline, so having low levels of it was of obvious concern.

Although her baby looked healthy, doctors wanted to induce Hollie as soon as possible.

“When I laid on the bed the nurse made small talk while she hooked me up to the monitors, but I could tell she was worried. The next thing I saw, a nurse hit the emergency button and an alarm started going off and before I could even grasp what was happening, close to 10 people were in the room with me.”

Winter’s heart rate had suddenly dropped and was rapidly decreasing, so doctors made the decision to perform an emergency C-section right then and there to save her life!

While they worked frantically to get an IV line into her, Hollie was told her little girl might be born brain dead.

“I laid on the operating table as the OB performed my c-section and I remember thinking, ‘Please be okay, little one, please.’ My husband was still out in the waiting room with our children and had no idea I was even in surgery.”

After what seemed like an eternity, Winter was finally born happy and healthy (and with a little bit of attitude)!

“The OB said that he didn’t find one single drop of amniotic fluid during my c-section and he’d never seen that before.”

Once Hollie was out of the recovery room and got a good look at Winter, she “couldn’t help but laugh because she looked so angry.”

“If I had to guess what she was thinking at that very point in time, it would have been, ‘I was comfortable in there. Put me back!’ Everyone that saw her said the exact same thing.”

Hollie didn’t know how dangerous Oligohydramnios until she spoke to a newborn baby photographer who takes “angel baby” pictures at hospitals for grieving parents.

“I told her about Winter being born with no amniotic fluid and she told me that a lot of the angel babies she photographs are due to the exact same condition.”

“It made me realize how lucky I am to have Winter here and how strong and determined she is.”

Now a toddler, Winter still looks like a real-life version of an Angry Bird meets ‘Karen’ – she’s a total sweetheart on the inside.
