Mom is irate after reading “warning” her daughter’s teacher left on her child’s test paper
I would be chewing that teacher out, that's for sure.

Kids cause trouble.

You don’t need me to tell you that.

Schools seem to have incidents every day – spilling something, a fight breaking out, someone being mean, and so on.

The girl in this news story was reprimanded at school, but her parents aren’t too happy about the reason.

Don’t worry; it’s not her fault – or is it?

Meet 7-year-old Alyssa.

She was scolded by her teacher for writing in cursive.

If you think this got people talking, then you’d be right.

When the photo was shared on Facebook, it garnered a few reactions and a lot of shares and comments.

Everyone had something to say, and most of the comments came to Alyssa’s defense.

On her paper was a red note left by her teacher that read “Stop writing your name in cursive. You have had several warnings!”

But what’s wrong with writing in cursive?

Most of us are taught it around 2nd or 3rd grade.

Some schools even give you a minor scolding for not learning cursive.

Alyssa learned cursive early.

While that would normally impress people, it didn’t impress her teacher.

In fact, her teacher wasn’t thrilled about it in the slightest.

“You have had several warnings” seems pretty serious too.

We can guess Alyssa had been writing in cursive for a while before this note was left on her homework.

But that seems a bit excessive, no?

Why not just let it slide?

She got her homework done either way.

Perhaps this teacher thinks Alyssa is making the other students feel left behind?

But even then, is that really Alyssa’s fault?

It was Brenda Hatcher who uploaded the photo to Facebook.

“Not only is her mother a military veteran but, she took the time to teach her very young child how to write in cursive.” she wrote

Even stranger, Alyssa didn’t write all the homework in cursive.

None of the actual homework was in cursive—just her name.

Now, there’s an argument to be made here that maybe the teacher reminded her politely before.

The note does say, “You have had several warnings,” so who’s to say the teacher didn’t try being calmer about it before?

After all, it shouldn’t have been too hard for Alyssa to switch back to writing in print just for her name.

On paper, that sounds like a reasonable request.

But the warning on Alyssa’s paper seems like an overreaction.

Alyssa is, after all, only 7.

It makes you wonder why cursive is worth a warning in this class.

Does this teacher want all the students to conform to the same style?

And is that a good thing?

A good student should follow the teacher’s instructions, sure.

But this teacher has some pretty questionable instructions, don’t you think?
