Research has shown that most people have a 50% chance of having a male baby and a 50% chance of having a female baby.
It’s all down to genetics, and there’s not really much you can do to change it, despite various myths and old wives’ tales, but for some reason or another, certain people seem to be way more likely to have either boys or girls.
Scottish mom Alexis Brett is one of those people! For 10 pregnancies in a row, she gave birth to nothing but boys, and it was only on attempt number 11 that she and her husband David welcomed their first daughter into the world.
Alexis had her first baby boy when she was 22 years old, and in the 15 years that have followed since then, she and David have had nine more sons.
They’d gotten so used to hearing that their babies were boys, both parents were shocked on the 11th occasion to learn that they were expecting a girl instead!
Alexis explained that the couple didn’t want to wait for the birth to find out the sex, so decided to take a look at the scan results:
Curiosity did get the better of us. When the results came in, (my son) Harrison opened the envelope because I was too nervous. When we realized it was a girl, we were amazed. It sounds silly because it’s a 50-50 chance, but we were surprised anyway.
Alexis admits that she was expecting to have another boy, but says she and David were “over the moon” to hear that they’d actually have a girl.
Their daughter was born on August 27 of last year and named Cameron, in honor of actress Cameron Diaz.
Little Cameron is one year old, while her biggest brother, Cameron, turns 19 later this year.
So, is 11 enough for this family, or do David and Alexis plan to make it an even 12?
We’re definitely stopping now. No more! I remember saying that last time, but this time I absolutely mean it. I love my family as it is now.
And how are all those boys adapting to having a little lady in the house? Well, David says that the lads have been on their best behavior!
They have generally been much better behaved around her, trying to keep quiet in case they wake her up. They also want to help with holding and feeding her. It’s been great.
The couple get a lot of questions about their big family, having appeared on TV and been interviewed by various papers and magazines.
They often get asked if they were “aiming” for a girl, but both say they simply wanted to have more kids and never cared much about the sex of their babies.
They also sometimes get accused of having lots of government benefits, but David has a good job with a high income, so the couple don’t even qualify for most benefits anyway.
They seem to be a very happy family, and even though it’s a bit of a tight squeeze to fit everyone into their five-bedroom home, they’re getting by just fine!
Alexis often uploads photos and news about her family over on Instagram if you’d like to keep up with the latest developments, and in the meantime, we wish the family a lot of happiness!
One thing’s for sure: with so many big bros looking out for her, little Cameron will always feel very safe and loved.
