The odds of having twins are pretty slim, but it’s not as impossible as some people might think.
Identical twin pregnancies occur in one in every 250 births – but still, you’d probably never think it’d happen to you… unless you were given solid proof.
Victoria had recently discovered she was a soon-to-be-twin mom – and she hadn’t told anyone yet.
While her partner, Matthew, was of course in on the secret, she planned to surprise the babies’ grandparents with the news.
Most people choose to tell their family that they’re having twins as soon as they know the babies are healthy and developing well.
But some of the best stories come from when the parents manage to keep their secret right up until the birth.
Victoria and Matthew knew that this moment would be really special, so they asked for one of the nurses to document the moment on camera.
As the video starts, we’re informed that Matthew’s dad is about to meet his first grandbaby. Remember, at this point, he thinks there’s only one child. He doesn’t know the gender yet, as he wanted to wait until the birth.
Looking nervous but excited, he heads over to the new family.
Victoria encourages the new grandpa to hold the baby, placing a pillow on his lap. She informs Matthew’s dad that this is his granddaughter, Elizabeth Antoinette. Adorable!
Next to Matthew’s dad, Matthew’s mom laughs and claps her hands. She doesn’t know that there are actually two babies, either.
As the grandparents coo over the little girl, it’s time for the big reveal…
Matthew, who’s standing next to Victoria, makes his planned exit, explaining that he has to go and ask a nurse a question. Victoria grins at the camera, knowing exactly what’s about to come.
It’s clear that Matthew’s parents haven’t even realized he’s left the room – they only have eyes for their new granddaughter!
The camera pans around to reveal Matthew, standing behind the scenes, with another baby in his arms.
He’s just inches away from his parents, who are completely oblivious to the fact that they’re actually grandparents to twins!
Finally, Victoria gives Matthew a nod, indicating that now is the right time for him to enter the room.
Matthew walks in, carrying the adorable bundle in his arms, as Victoria explains that this is their other granddaughter, Juliet Boleyn.
Matthews’ parents’ reactions are emotional enough to bring a tear to your eye.
His mom instantly starts to cry, saying:
“Oh, my God, you had twins? Oh, my God. Two babies!”
Matthew places little Juliet in her grandad’s arms, and the pair look as happy and content as can be.
It’s an adorable moment, with a bit of comedy thrown in when Matthew’s mom leans forwards, looking genuinely concerned, and asks,
“Did you know?”
When she finds out Victoria and Matthew had been keeping it a secret the whole time, she bursts into hysterical laughter.
It must be a lot to take in on what was already a big day!
Matthew’s dad is so preoccupied holding his granddaughters that he has to ask his wife to wipe his nose.
