Babies and toddlers are extremely curious and inquisitive humans, everything is so new! However, this can be nerve-wracking for parents because it seems like almost everything around the house can pose a threat — like electrical outlets, for example.

The list of things that need to be childproofed in the home can feel like it’s never-ending. But since electrical outlets are usually low and in a child’s height-range, they can be especially tempting for little ones to stick their fingers in them!

You could go ahead and purchase electrical outlet covers for your entire house – or, you can try this super-nifty ‘mom hack’ instead.

Moms across the country are sharing this amazing childproofing hack that works like an absolute charm. The best part? You probably have what you need in your house, and you’ve probably been tossing it in the trash without realizing its worth — empty baby wipe packages.

As a parent, chances are you’re already purchasing a lot of baby wipes. And usually, the empty packaging ends up in the recycle bin. But as it turns out, that ‘trash’ is actually a wonderful childproofing tool.

On YouTube and Facebook, moms are sharing how to use these containers to cover electrical outlets — and it’s actually seriously impressive.

One mom, Brittany Kurtz, shared this hack on Facebook and the post was shared over 179,000 times! First, you’ll need to gather up your supplies – all you’ll need is the empty baby wipe container.

“Remove the adhesive top from the baby wipes package, then place over outlets. I certainly still will keep my baby safe outlet covers in, but this is just another precaution for on top. Out of site, out of mind,” she said along with her post.

After removing the plastic ‘dispenser’ portion of the package, all you need to do is slip it over the electrical outlet — it should perfectly fit over most standard outlets.

Of course, any responsible parent would make sure this is extra secure on the wall. The adhesive on the cap is already sticky, but triple-checking is the only thing to do!

Once the hack was posted online, parents everywhere commented on the savvy idea, loving the fact that, not only does the hack work, it’s affordable! Who doesn’t love upcycling and saving money? Here’s what some of them had to say…

“Considering it for sure, I never liked those plastic ones you stick in the holes lol,” said one mom.

“So clever, thank you!” said another.

Some parents expressed concern that this parenting hack might not quite be enough of a safety precaution, however, when used in conjunction with other covers, it could provide double protection.
