As much as we don’t like the fact that there are beauty standards, they unfortunately do and what’s worse is that they always tend to be unrealistic.

Being pregnant is certainly not easy, especially when the people around you keep on telling you to be someone who they expect you to be, just because you are now carrying another person in your body. One common reason why women are commented on during pregnancy is the way their baby bumps look like.

Marks you should be proud of

When you carry a tiny human inside you and it grows continuously, what do you expect would happen to your skin? Stretch marks are often frowned upon by perfectionists and body shamers, saying that these marks are signs of imperfection.

But guess what, stretch marks are not something to be ashamed of. Moms all over the world are voicing out that these marks are not to be embarrassed about. Instead, these are signs of something to be proud of, which is being able to carry a healthy little human inside you. That, in itself, is already a miracle.

The famous linea nigra

Have you heard about the linea nigra? It is a dark line that goes across a pregnant woman’s belly that is caused by hormonal changes. It grows as the mom’s tummy grows.

While photos of pregnant models are devoid of these “ugly” lines, the truth that every pregnant woman experiences are that this line does exist. And we’ve got news! This line is not the only part that’s darkened when a woman becomes pregnant.

Dark underarms, dark inner thighs, and even dark baby bumps are expected when a woman gets pregnant. Having these shadowy parts are absolutely normal for a pregnant woman to experience.

Don’t touch the bump!

Some women carry their bumps high, while other women carry theirs low. Some women have big bumps, while others almost look like they are not pregnant at all.

Some bumps are hairy, while some bumps are full of dark stretch marks. There might be some lucky women who have very few, unrecognizable marks on their tummies, but most of the time, women have all sorts of marks on their growing baby bumps.

Again, these are everyday occurrences that women should never be embarrassed about. A woman’s body experiences massive changes over the course of 9 months, and it is not surprising that pregnant women look different compared to their pre-pregnancy years.

Yes, pregnancy is not always as beautiful or as elegant or as graceful as some people would think, but it is definitely a chance that is not given to everyone. So, if you ever have the amazing blessing of being a mom, grab it, embrace it and show off your beautiful and real baby bump to the world.
