With over 100,000 children getting adopted in the United States every year, adoption is a common practice.
Still, many people can’t fully understand the heart-wrenching emotions that go into making that decision.
Utah mother Hannah Mongie went viral when she released a video she had made for her son.
At only 18 years old, Hannah had made the hard decision to put her son Taggert up for adoption, and their time together was near its end.
In the video, she explained why she had made that difficult decision.
Hannah met Taggert’s father Kaden back in 2013. “[Kaden] was on his mission, and he came home in April of 2015,” Hannah said in the video. “We dated for a while and then after a while, I found out I was pregnant with you. He loved you so much from the very, very beginning.”
Like most pregnant mothers, Hannah went to her 8-week OBGYN appointment and found herself in awe upon hearing her son’s heart beat for the first time. After the appointment, she immediately phoned Kayden.
“I texted him and he ran out and he was so excited to hear it. He couldn’t [have been] happier, and he was hoping for a boy so that he could teach him baseball, and sports and stuff,” she explained through tears.
Then shortly after, in a tragic twist of fate, Kayden passed away in his sleep from natural causes.
“From the day your daddy died, I had a hard time even considering placing you with a different family when you were my last piece of Kaden,” she admitted.
“But one day I woke up and I just knew you were supposed to be with someone else.”
When Hannah met Brad and Emily Marsh, Taggert’s adoptive parents, she immediately fell in love.
She grew very close with Emily and even helped decorate Taggert’s nursery.
While Hannah was happy her son would be going to a good home, the situation was bittersweet.
“The entire pregnancy, all I was waiting for was these two days I could spend with you,” she tells him.
“I’m in the last hour of those two days … I just want you to know that I really, really love you so much. More than I’ve ever loved any other human in the whole world.”
“I just wanted to let you know that I love you and I made this decision completely out of love and if I didn’t love you, I wouldn’t’ have been in this position at all.”
Alright, if you are basically bawling at this point, don’t worry.
The story has a happier ending than you’d think.
Taggert doesn’t live far from Hannah, and he sees her once a month.
Emily, his adoptive mother, told KTVU of Taggert and her other adopted son: “They will never have to wonder if their birth moms loved them. They will never have to feel abandoned.”
“They will always know their birth mothers placed them out of selfless love and sacrifice.”
