When Elliana Walmsley was six-years-old, she did the unexpected. The talented dancer learned choreography for the song “Over the Rainbow”, a timeless ballad composed by Harold Arlen. Typically, children recognize the original song from the movie “The Wizard of Oz” but since it has been remade countless times by artists across musical genres, both kids and adults have learned to love different versions of it and consequently incorporate it into performing arts.

Sporting a red, two-piece costume with a head piece in the same vibrant shade, Elliana walked confidently on stage, took a seat at the center, and waited for the music to start. When the song played over the speakers, she began to sway her arms gracefully to the beat.

Children are fast learners. And as grown-ups with a stronger understanding of time and expertise (and a bit of hesitation hovering over our passions), it’s in our nature to sometimes feel as though their innocent eagerness moves them to want to accomplish a myriad of things within a short amount of time. Despite attempts to explain that most things take time, practice, and patience, there’s just no stopping a curious and determined child from reaching his or her goals.
