Graduating from college is a significant milestone in one’s academic journey, and it opens up a world of opportunities.
For some individuals, the completion of a bachelor’s degree is just the beginning of their academic pursuits.
And when a child graduates from college and then pursues a PhD, the first people who’ll be happy about it are none other than the parents.
They are proud of the achievement their child has accomplished.
Because pursuing a PhD is a way to deepen knowledge, expertise, and contribute to their field of study.
Like any other dream, pursuing this is a challenging but rewarding journey that requires a high level of commitment, dedication, and passion.
Meet Brandon Truett.
According to his Twitter account, he is the luce foundation curator of academic programs for Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at Portland State University.
On his website, Brandon shared that he create the strategy and implement initiatives that drive interdisciplinary engagement between the museum and the university’s diverse audiences.
And he shared an effort from his Dad who made sure to express his love and support for his son through a big billboard!
Yes, a billboard!
In a Twitter post shared by Brandon, he said that his Dad was not able to finish High School.
Feeling proud of his son seeking higher education he knew he wanted to celebrate him.
It felt weird, maybe even futile, to celebrate my achievement at home, esp as the pandemic exacerbates an already vanishing job market. But, I gotta say, this ostentatious display of support from my Dad, who didn’t graduate high school, has got me feeling proud of myself today. pic.twitter.com/DqKMN2eXrB

Brandon didn’t expect that his post would go viral but above all he was happy to know that this post led other people to share their perseverance stories and share about their Dad.
Simple gestures have a big impact on children
According to www.verywellfamily.com, Larissa Dann, a veteran trainer of Parent Effectiveness Training in Australia, suggests that we stop saying “I am proud of you,” and start saying, “I am proud for you.”
It is a subtle shift from the accomplishment being about the parent to the accomplishment being about the child.
Like in this post, Brandon’s dad is saying that he is proud for his son.
For being able to finish his PhD.
This is more than just saying that he’s proud but also saying that he loves Brandon and honors his hard work in getting the PhD.
Inspiration during the pandemic
Brandon’s post gave a lot of people inspiration.
Not only in terms of pursuing their dreams or how to be a better Dad, but it also gives hope and spreads positivity.
But here’s a Dad making sure that he reaches his son’s heart, saying: I am proud for you. Always.
