Giving birth to your baby is very hard, but can you imagine naturally giving birth to a 13-pound baby?
For all those mothers who have dealt with the pain of labor and natural birth, can you imagine yourself giving birth to a baby this size?
That is how one teacher gave birth to her healthy and beautiful baby boy.
Lauren Flaugher gave birth naturally to her first child, a baby girl, whom she named Aurea.
So when she got pregnant again, she wanted to have natural childbirth like the first one.
But nothing could have prepared Lauren and her family for the surprise that was about to happen.
The family was well aware that their second baby, a boy, would be heavier than usual.
They found this out at Lauren’s 20th-week ultrasound.
“They said, ‘He’s showing a little big,’ ” Lauren recalls. “A midwife did the measurement and we thought maybe he would be at most a 10 pound baby.”
Like any other expectant parents, Lauren and her husband, Joe, were so excited for their baby boy.
Lauren gave birth to Finnis Steven Flaugher.
“The scale only went up to 12 pounds, so our midwife looked at me and said, ‘We can’t use it,’” Lauren, then 29, shares with her interview with PEOPLE, with a laugh. “I thought the scale was broken!
She was shocked!
Of course, she started asking questions to the midwife, who then explained what happened.
“But, turns out, Finn weighed 13 pounds at birth, so they had to bring in a bigger, digital scale,” she recalls.
What an adorable but shockingly huge baby!
Aside from this big bundle of joy, we’re just so amazed by the fact that Lauren was able to give birth naturally and drug-free!
Can you just imagine how she made this possible?
“I could not believe it when they said he weighed 13 pounds,” she recalled smiling. “I thought they had misread the scale, I kept thinking, ‘This is not possible!’ Joe thought the same thing.”
According to Lauren, her experience was like no other.
For her, the feeling was “intense,” and she was aware of what was happening.
“When I was pushing he got a little stuck, so we did some different maneuvers,” recalls Lauren. “[The midwives] were never concerned about his weight after birth, his blood sugar was good and he wanted to nurse right away and frequently after birth.”
According to Lauren, her sister also had big babies.
However, when Finn was born, her sister turned to her and said that she won!
