People think that a teacher’s job ends as they bid goodbye to their students at the end of the day.
However, even after school hours, some teachers think of their students unbeknownst to us.
Some think of an approach to how they could help their students learn, some think of ways to impart wisdom, and others think of ways to help them live a better life.
When teacher Dana Cruse first saw Jenna Aubuchont, she felt drawn to the little girl.
Before the four-year-old entered the classroom, her mother, Bethany Aubuchont, kissed her on her forehead and told her she loved her.
Little Jenna has non-verbal autism.
She doesn’t communicate with everyone, but she’s happy and sweet with teacher Dana.
The feeling was mutual because teacher Dana fell in love with the little girl when she saw her.
Teacher Dana said that Jenna gives the best hugs.
“I think I’m teaching her something, but she’s teaching me way more,” said Teacher Dana in an interview with CBS Colorado.
Jenna’s teacher felt so happy about the little girl’s progress in her first eight weeks that she followed her.
So Teacher Dana reached out to Bethany to give her feedback.
In the middle of their conversation, Bethany revealed that they were homeless.
Bethany has three beautiful kids, Emma, Jenna, and Kenna.
Their family was doing well in Texas before, until one day, the children’s father slipped back into his addiction.
As a result, he was incarcerated.
Bethany had to support all three children, but unfortunately, upon discovering that Jenna had autism, she had to stop working to focus on Jenna.
Everything was falling apart, but there was hope. Bethany’s friends promised to help the family once they arrived in Colorado.
To her shock, her friends backed out, and the family of four became homeless.
Every day, Bethany and her three little girls would have to arrive and line up at the homeless shelter at 3:30 pm.
Sometimes, they would get in and have a place to sleep, but if they didn’t, they would sleep in their car.
Seeing her three girls infected with lice broke Bethany’s heart.
As much as Bethany wanted to apply for a full-time job, her schedule won’t let her. She had to go and get the kids and line up every afternoon so they could sleep.
Teacher Dana’s heart ached for Bethany and her family.
They didn’t deserve this, especially little Jenna.
She had set up a GoFundMe account that has garnered enough money to help them get a new apartment.
In the last update last June 29, 2019, teacher Dana said that the now 5-year-old Jenna, or “Nenny” lives with her sisters, mother, and grandmother in an apartment.
She rides her mom’s new truck to school and has since learned new hobbies.
Teacher Dana thanked everyone who made everything possible for the family and said they were doing well.
Everyone deserves a second chance in life; sometimes, we’re led to someone who would help us get back on our feet.
