MaKayla, a 15-year-old student, lives in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, with her family.
She was only eight years old when her mom, Brandy, started dating Zane Crawford. The man has always been nice to her and it seems that he treated her as if she was his biological daughter from day one.
Brandy and Zane have since been together, and Zane’s bond with his stepdaughter has only been getting stronger and stronger.
So, at some point, the girl decided that it was time that her stepfather became her dad officially.
She talked about it with her mother, who agreed, and they tried to come up with a plan in order to surprise Zane with the sweet question of whether he wanted to adopt MaKayla.
After thinking about it for quite some time, mother and daughter came up with a great idea. They would get the cheerleading team of MaKayla’s school involved.
“I talked to one of the girls at the practices,” Brandy explained to Happily, “and I said ‘Hey, MaKayla is going to ask her stepdad to adopt her, and do you want to make this poster, this is how we want to do it.'”
So, the cheerleading team helped by creating a poster that had photos of MaKayla and Zane together, and in the middle of them, the most important question:
“I know it’s your special day, let’s make it ours, will you adopt me?”
And, if you’re wondering why it was already a special day for Zane, that’s because it was his birthday!
That’s right! MaKayla couldn’t have chosen a better day, could she?
When the day came, Zane was sitting in the front row watching his stepdaughter perform with the team at the homecoming football game.
At some point, the fellow cheerleaders held MaKayla in the air, and she lifted the special sign.
When Zane read it, he was shocked, but he was also happier than ever. He got up and walked closer to her, while the girl got close to him, too, and they hugged tight. It was obvious that his answer was a big yes.
“I’ve been hoping and waiting for this moment for quite some time,” Zane admitted. “She’s always been my daughter for as long as I’ve known her.”
But Zane also went on to reveal something that makes this story even more heartwarming.
“I was adopted myself,” the man said, “and to be able to pay it forward is one of the most rewarding things. I think to be successful in life you need to kave a close-knit family and it just makes everything that much easier.”
It’s amazing how lucky Brandy was to love a man who would be such a good father to her daughter. At the same time, Zane was blessed, too, to get into a family that has so much love to share.
This story is amazing and it definitely reminds everyone that love is the answer to everything.
