She is only six years old in the video that went viral when her mom, Elissa Colon, posted it online. You can tell she has a big personality for not moving shyly while on stage. She knows she’s out there to perform and gives her best.

Doing what she loves the most, she did exactly what her dance teacher taught her when she performed Aretha Franklin’s popular song “Respect” with two other classmates.

Despite being small in size, her interpretation of a diva on stage has brought the house down. The audience goes wild on their performance, especially to her lip-synching and impressive routine.

When she was interviewed about their show, Johanna says she learned the moves from her teacher Miss Heather. The ‘snap’ and the ‘shimmy’ are among the actions that you can notice her do most of the time, and she’s able to execute these fantastically. She admits these are her favorite fancy moves.

The dance instructor chooses “Respect” because she knows that the young girls, especially Johanna, can do it on their own. She didn’t go wrong with her choice of music.

Johanna as a daughter and sister

Elissa and her husband have shown so much support for their child, who loves dancing. They send her to dancing classes to let her do what she’s happy doing. Elissa says her daughter loves to show her personality, and it is what she often does even at home.

The girl has been taking dance lessons since she was two years old at Heather’s Dance Inc. The dance recital was attended by over 400 people who, without a doubt, enjoyed the night upon seeing Johanna channel the Queen of Soul after several weeks of practice.

Most of the family’s time is spent taking care of her younger brother with Hirschprung’s disease. Dancing has become her outlet to enjoy. In addition to that, she also goes for ballet, jazz, and tumbling.

These classes happen at a studio just near their house in Raleigh. Despite her busy schedule in all her classes, she spends time taking care of CJ, her younger brother. This only shows how sweet and kind she is as a sister.

A star in the making

After that dance recital video goes viral, Johanna has been invited for various interviews and even in The Ellen Show. She and her best friends, Elizabeth and Rain, brought their cute tutu costumes for a live performance. Ellen DeGeneres is quite pleased to see the adorable dancers.

Ellen asks why they don’t dance with the boys; the girl gives a quick answer:

“Because they don’t listen.”

So delighted with her guests, Ellen gives the little dancers a shopping spree in Toys R Us to buy any toy they want.

From being a YouTube sensation to a child actress at 9 years old

Johanna transitions to TV and film acting. She appears in the movie “Troop Zero” by Amazon Studios. Previously, she has a guest-star role in “The Guest Book” by TBS.

With her sweet and sassy personality, Johanna Colon gets a career even at a young age. Her parents are quite proud of what their daughter has achieved since that girl in a tutu, showing her love for the Queen of Soul, wowed the world through social media.

Although Johanna and Aretha haven’t met in person, the diva had seen her routine, and she described the little girl as “fierce,” in a report by HLN.

“I’m scared of her…I thought I had those moves covered…but this little girl is fierce! #ha ha… I mean serious.”
