We all need a friend in life, and we all get scared sometimes. But we don’t have to be adults to offer comfort. Even the smallest of us can sense when a best friend is scared.
There is a video of a baby and his dog going viral right now that proves it.
Getting through the storm together
When a thunderstorm struck, it left one otherwise happy golden retriever cowering in the corner of their family’s laundry room to hide from the noise. Thankfully, the dog didn’t have to go through it alone.
As soon as the toddler of the house realized that his canine friend was scared, he went to the shivering dog to offer comfort and pets and to talk him through it until he was no longer frightened.
The small boy chattered away above the sound of the rain, possibly offering the dog some encouraging words and telling him not to be frightened. He hugged his friend and showed genuine concern. It’s clear that they have had a deep bond from the start.
It’s the start of a long and genuine friendship between the two of them.
Compassion goes viral
When the video of the two of them together in the laundry room hit Twitter, people quickly shared, liked, and responded. The huge amount of compassion in such a small person couldn’t be denied. Everyone had something positive to say.

The video of the two friends is a little ray of hope in what is sometimes a dark world, there to remind us that there is truly good in the world, and it can start from some of the smallest sources and grow into something beautiful.
Remembering our own kindness
For some, it has brought back memories of their own friendships and the genuine love that many of us have had the chance to experience as pet owners.

We do have to wonder if the dog understood the toddler’s language (we know we were struggling to). Although, what the small boy was trying to express went beyond language. His care was obvious. No one needs a baby to golden retriever, or even baby to adult, translation to see that. His concern and care were too real to ignore.
