Rebecca Epstein is a mother of two and student of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (M.D., from the Latin Medicinae Doctor) after years of studying and hard work.
Not only that, but she balanced her studies with two children to care for at the same time! She attended her Commencement Ceremony with her young baby and toddler at her side.
They didn’t just come to support her – they came up to the stage with her to accept the award.
I am swooning! How cute is that?
She has her hands full with a baby in one arm, trying to direct her toddler in the right direction with the other. Not only that but she has to arrange to shake hands and collect her degree.
Her adorable toddler comes bounding across the stage. His hand is open and ready to take the cylinder from the Chancellor.
I don’t think he expected to see this when he came to hand out awards today!
It takes some arranging to get the little boy to face the audience and pose for a photo.
His mom points out into the crowd to where their family is sitting so he knows where to look.
Everyone is beaming with happiness watching this adorable little one.
They pose for their adorable photo and you can see how proud this mama is of her accomplishment!
Being a mom is the hardest job in the world, and getting a degree is no small feat. So the fact that she was able to do both of these things at the same time is amazing.
And how great of the school to let her bring her two children with her up on the stage.
This is the best example of modern day parenting and I love it!
As they start to walk off the stage together, the toddler runs off on his own. His mom tries to direct him with her one free hand, but to no avail. It’s pretty hard to get a toddler to do anything.
Still holding the degree his mom has spent years working for… he hands it over to someone else!
Everyone in the audience and on stage bursts out laughing. The man who now holds her degree hides it behind his back, as if to say “finder’s keepers”.
He shrugs like he doesn’t know where it’s gone and the mom laughs her head off.
While this is going on, it gives the mischievous toddler time to make an escape! He’s not ready to leave the limelight just yet.
He makes a run for the other side of the stage, but gets caught by the chancellor just in time. He is guided back to his mama.
She picks him up in her free arm – her young baby still secure in the other – and heads off to make her exit.
With no way to hold the cylinder, the mom walks off stage… certainly not ’empty handed’, but without her degree is tow.
You can see the man who’s holding it mouth “I’ll pass it to her”, so we can be sure she got it eventually!
The crowd goes wild cheering and clapping for this family’s entertaining graduation walk.
