When a pregnant mom is told by the doctor that she’s expecting twins, she can’t help but imagine her babies will be born on the same day.
In most cases, twins are delivered with a C-section to make sure there will be no complications, but in most cases, the surgery is scheduled during the day, so the babies are actually born on the same date.
In today’s story, these babies from North Texas were not only born on different days, but they were also born in different years!
You see, baby A, or Annie Jo, was born on New Year’s Eve, while her fraternal twin sister, Effie Rose, was born on New Year’s day.
Mom Kali and dad Cliff were not expecting them until January 11, when they had scheduled the C-section.
But, in the meantime, life happened, so they had to change their plans.
You see, on December 29, Kali went to her scheduled check-up appointment, and she ended up being admitted to the hospital so the doctor could measure her blood pressure.
Only then did she and her husband realize that their babies had actually a chance to be New Year’s babies.
“We had joked at that point, once we realized that we weren’t going to leave the hospital without babies, that wouldn’t it be funny,” Kali Scott told Good Morning America. “We had a couple friends who said the same thing, and then it ended up happening that way.”
Indeed, late on Saturday night, the doctors decided it would be best for the mother and the babies to perform the C-section at that point.
So, they proceeded with the surgery, and, only minutes later, the first baby was born.
Annie Jo Scott was born on December 31, 2022, at 11:55 pm.
Six minutes later, her twin sister, Effie Rose, was born. But it was no longer New Year’s Eve, it was New Year’s Day!
The second baby was born on January 1, 2023, at 12:01 am.
The babies, who both weighed 5 pounds 5 ounces each, needed no time in the NICU, and they were perfectly healthy at birth.
Their parents couldn’t be more excited.
When it all sank in, they started realizing what a difference these six minutes would make in their lives for the years to come.
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day will be much different celebrations from now on.
And, while they’ll get away with one birthday party for both of them for a while, as dad Cliff said, they’ll soon need to throw two different parties for their daughters.
But the couple is happy with how things turned out.
After all, the girls will be sharing so much in their lives that having different birthdays will only help them realize they are independent individuals and that they each have their own life.
What a unique story and what a beautiful family!
