Retirement is one of the things that old folks look forward to.
But not everyone gets to experience it.
It is the time to catch up after decades of hard work and labor.
To finally settle and have time for their family is the utmost priority after retirement. But in some cases, people tend to work way beyond the usual retirement age.
Just like this 91-year-old woman who still works at a local grocery store. She has finally decided to retire after working her whole life.
Meet Betty Glover.
Betty Glover is a cashier at WinCo.
She loves her workplace and has met with people and coworkers daily for the past 10 years.
She works at WinCo Foods in Medford, Oregon as a cashier and is hoping to retire soon, but she still has one challenge to overcome.
She needs money to pay off her last major expense, the fifth wheel that she currently lives in.
“I’m used to working and I hate the thought of not working. But then I decided that I would like to enjoy my grandchildren and my great-grandchildren,” Glover told the local news. “I’ve even got a great-great-grandchild.”
When a coworker recommended it to her, Glover started a GoFundMe to help her raise enough money to pay off the fifth wheel.
This is her last major expense before she has enough to retire.
She was hoping to raise $40,000.
However, after exceeding her goal, the donations kept pouring in.
As of right now, Betty Glover has been given over $64,000 to put toward a well-deserved retirement.
She said she’s happy and grateful for the support she’s received thus far.
“I’m speechless,” she shared in the interview. “I didn’t think for a minute that people would be that generous. Even if it’s whatever that they can afford, it’s amazing that they give it to me,” Glover further added.
Betty was born during the Great Depression.
Since then, she has been working her whole life.
At the age of 91, it’s already an extraordinary feat, and she kept on working at that age.
She told the local news that it’s nice to be remembered.
And at this point, she is the last of her generation.
“I’d love to watch those little ones grow up,” shared Glover. “They are really sweet and when you work when your children are small you miss a lot of their life and now I’d like to enjoy my great-great-grandchildren,” she explained.
Glover’s GoFundMe has since been bombarded with donations as supporters of her endeavor reached many people with the help of Social Media.
“I look forward to tomorrow. I always have,” Glover said in another interview. “I don’t sit around and think about dying. I think about living. And I think about what exciting things are gonna happen tomorrow,” she added.
With the help of Social Media and the people donating from a few dollars to $500, the biggest donation so far, it goes to show that we are always ready to help those who are in need.
Glover truly deserves it. If you would like to add a little extra to Betty’s retirement savings, you can still donate to her GoFundMe here.
We all wish for Glover to have more time in this world and enjoy the most remarkable treasure any person could have, watching their grand and great-grandchildren grow.
