When you’re a kid there’s nothing more exciting than opening birthday presents. But while toys, games, or electronics are typically underneath the wrapping paper, a girl named Haley received something extra special one year…
It was news from her stepmom that changed her life.
Not only did the gift have Haley bursting into tears, but the footage has internet users needing tissues too.
Haley was asked to take a seat during her party so she could open some presents.
The girl’s stepmom, Brigitte, handed her over a bag that contained a couple of items. At first, she opened a sweet-looking stuffed animal from Build-A-Bear Workshop.
The next present was a necklace that had a heartfelt inscription.
Haley read the words aloud, “My daughter holds my heart.” Although the necklace alone was full of meaning – Brigitte saved the best gift for last…
In the viral clip, Brigitte passes Haley the stuffed animal’s birth certificate. She then asks her to read the back.
Build-A-Bear Workshop is known for giving out precious birth certificates with their fuzzy toys. Haley’s was unique though. On the other side was a message from her stepmom, or as she sometimes calls her – “Super Mom.”
With Brigitte kneeling in front of her, Haley reads the message out loud.
She begins:
“It is in the best interest of Haley that this child should be adopted by her stepmother … It is in the best interest of Haley that the name of the child is to remain the same.”
It’s news they’d been waiting a long time to hear.
Brigitte had been fighting to become a legal parent of Haley for years. On YouTube, she explained:
“We had been pursuing the court system for 5 years to gain permanent custody after a long journey I filed for adoption and one year later it was approved. The Judge put in capital letters that it was in Haley’s best interest to be adopted by me her Step Mom or like she called me Super Mom.”
Haley slowly gets emotional reading the note and allowing it to sink in.
She continues:
“Brigitte’s petition for adoption should be and is granted. Haley shall, thereafter, and have all the rights…”
That’s when she stops. Haley can no longer read the words as tears start to take over.
It’s a moment that’s just so beautiful.
The mother and daughter sweetly embrace, and both cry in each other’s arms.

Brigitte tells her daughter that she loves her and asks if she’s happy. Haley nods and through tears responds, “I love you, Mom.”
One YouTube user wrote:
“When she said: ” I love you Mom” I cried so hard.. I’m so happy for her!!”
Another commented:
“Oh this got me and I mean got me good too. My emotions are everywhere.”
She had no clue that the party would also become an adoption celebration.
Everyone watching claps over the amazing news – which really was the best present Haley could have ever received.
Brigitte is one proud mama. She wrote on YouTube:
“This is the second time I have been blessed with [an] adoption I am a Mother of two amazing girls and couldn’t be prouder of them both.”
