Dad was at work but he still had lots of questions for his daughter's date.

Dads are generally more protective of their daughters. One good reason for this is that they have a good idea about what boys are thinking and what they’ll be thinking next. They’ve been in their position when they were younger.

Pedro Lugo is just like most dads when it comes to his daughter Grace.

She’s his eldest daughter. And at 19 years old, she’s set to go on her first date. Unfortunately, Pedro wasn’t at home to meet the young guy.

Because he didn’t want to let the opportunity pass, he came up with a clever plan.

His front porch has a video doorbell so he asked Grace to make sure the young man rings the doorbell. He didn’t tell her why so she had no idea that he’ll be interrogating her date.

Jared arrived on time.

As instructed, he rang the doorbell. Little did he know that it was Grace’s dad who’ll be greeting him.

Pedro said:

“Sorry I can’t meet you in person because I am at work. So at least I still get to see your face, but you don’t get to see mine.”

The young man didn’t feel threatened at all.

In fact, he found it funny. He laughed along as his date’s father said that.

Pedro asked the standard questions.

He asked the young man where they’re going and what movie they’re seeing. And like most dads interrogating their daughters’ dates, he asked Jared what time he planned on bringing Grace home.

“Probably before 11,” he said nervously.

The dad had another time in mind.

He responded:

“Oh, I heard 10:30. Okay, that’s good.”

At this point, Grace had an idea about what’s going on.

She went to the front door and greeted her dad. At the same time, she reminded him that she wants to come home by 11 pm. However, each time Grace said “11”, Pedro was quick to correct it to 10:30.

Jared was committed to his promise.

He brought Grace home at 10:18 pm that night. It’s earlier than the time Pedro set for them.

Although Pedro was quite scary during their meeting, it didn’t stop the young man from asking Grace out again.

In fact, he took her on another date the very next day. This time it was a Red Sox game which happened to be the first game she saw.

Eventually, Jared and Pedro were able to meet each other in person.

The family asked him to come over the next week and Pedro was able to get to know him more.

The father shared in an interview with Ring:

“He’s a very respectful kid. And he told me he kept looking at his watch the whole time during that first date to make sure he got her home before 10:30.”

The video of the funny “interrogation” easily went viral.

After Grace’s brother uploaded it, the video has been watched nearly 57,000 times on Instagram. On YouTube, it has nearly 5 million views!

One of its viewers shared what he learned from it. He said:

“As teenagers we dont understand many things our parents do but down the line, we end up understanding and thanking them. Then we do the same to our kids. Thats how it is. We just need to understand that nobody in the world wants the best for us like our parents.”
