When a child falls over or hurts themselves, any parent will know that the best method of moving on is a distraction.

While offering a tasty treat and singing a song are both good methods of making a toddler forget about their boo-boo, one dad became our new hero when he took a different approach to the matter.

Jamison, an adorable little girl, had hurt her knee, and dad Patrick knew he had to take her mind off the pain.

So he brought her over to the bathroom mirror and asked her the all-important question:

“Are you tough?”

In case little Jamison was unable to follow him, dad mimicked being tough, clenching his fist and making some standard tough-man grunts (think wrestling noises).

Patrick continued to ask Jamison if she was tough until a smile broke out on her face. And then, adorably, Jamison mimicked dad with her own tough-girl noises, grinning at her reflection in the mirror.

Now the pair had got started, there was no stopping them. Dad and Jamison continued to make tough-people noises and flex their “muscles” in front of the mirror.

It’s an adorable video, especially seeing Jamison’s face light up as she forgets all about her boo-boo and concentrates on bonding with dad.

Patrick is clearly a doting dad, as we all know how difficult it is to be an enthusiastic parent, especially when your little one has hurt themselves. Hats off to him for his dedication to the cause!

The video was shared to YouTube by Rumble Viral, where it already has nearly 4,000 views. Viewers commenting below the video were all in agreement that this is one of the cutest videos we’ve seen all summer.

One person wrote:

“The way this little girl flexed and her reaction is just so priceless, she is one tough cookie :)”

Someone else commented:

“Dad, stop it now I am trying to pick my belly button. Such a good daddy and sweet but though [sic] daughter lol”

Many people commented that Patrick was doing more than just temporarily cheering his daughter up – he was also preparing her for a world of uncertainty and (more likely than not) playground bullies.

It’s easy for children to fall into a spiral of despair when they’re hurt, either physically or mentally, and while no parent wants to see their child get picked on at school, it’s an unfortunate reality for some.

Statistics show that 71% of people have witnessed bullying at some point, but it’s most likely even higher than this. While most of us are lucky enough to say we’ve never been bullied, we’ve probably all been victims of a cruel remark made by a sniggering group of older children at some point.

While Patrick can’t protect his little girl from silly schoolchildren, he can help her to remember her “tough-girl” mantra if she ever needs to be brave. Showing a bully that you’re too tough to be bothered by their actions is the best thing you can do!
