Baby animals sure have a way of finding our soft spot! There’s something so adorable and endearing about their tiny features (well, relatively tiny compared to their adult counterparts), delightful quirks, and curious innocence.
We’ve seen puppies and kittens at work and we can’t get enough, but wildlife babies are a whole different story altogether.
It’s no wonder documentaries and other television shows on baby animals have a way of almost immediately capturing our attention. Take baby elephants for instance. They’re cute, clumsy, and have such immense curiosity that they seem to lose their sense of proximity completely.
Elephants are known for their distinct features: large ears, long trunks, tusks. Baby elephants have a way of making even their physical features more charming than usual. No wonder there’s a whole Disney original dedicated to the adorable mammal.
And to prove just how irresistible they are, here’s a baby elephant set on finding one girl’s nose.
First of all, how lucky is she to be sitting amidst these gentle and glorious creatures?
This took place in India. Apparently, the calf had fallen into a 15-meter ditch on a tea plantation. Sadly, its herd decided to abandon it when they failed to retrieve it.
Fortunately, the baby elephant was raised in a wildlife rehabilitation center that successfully reintroduced many other abandoned elephants to the wild.
Aside from the good news that it was always in good hands, there’s also relief in knowing the baby elephant got plenty of interaction with friendly humans.
Just watch how it eagerly approaches the girl to search for her “trunk”.
The baby elephant must have been extremely curious to see a different looking specie in its habitat. So it decided to investigate, starting with the girl’s facial features.
“Why don’t you look like the rest?”
The girl squealed with delight as the baby elephant trotted over to her and sort of inspected her face with its fuzzy trunk.
Elephant trunks are amazing. They can lift up to 770 pounds, allow elephants to breathe easy as they wade through waters, and grasp objects. It allows the friendly mammals to smell up to several miles away, too! (Source: Real Clear Science)
And speaking of the many different things elephant trunks are used for, this specific body part plays a significant role in social interaction as well. Elephants use their trunks to hug, caress, and comfort one another. In this case, the baby elephant was doing more than just a surprise inspection.
It was probably trying to give the girl a sweet kiss or two as well!
Wouldn’t you love to be smack in the middle of a field with gentle, playful elephants trotting about? We all wish we were as lucky as this woman, who experienced just how sweet these majestic animals can be.
How fortunate for us all that these precious moments were shared online. It was such a heartwarming clip that it got over 9 million views and even had users making up cute and funny dialogues and scenarios.
Prepare to gush as you watch how the playful elephant interacts with the girl.
