Being a single parent is no joke. From cleaning, cooking, and taking care of sick children, you’ll have to do everything on your own. Honestly, it can be quite exhausting.
Sara Fleming witnessed the struggles of a single dad on her trip to the grocery store.
At first, she thought it was just another day at the store. She picked up everything she needed for the weekend and got in line a the cash register.
There, she noticed the family in front of her.
They were a family of three- the dad, a girl, and a boy. Like her, they were at the grocery store to get their essentials.
However, when she took a closer look, her heart broke.
As the kids were looking at their items, the father tried a couple of times to enter his card details. Unfortunately, it got declined over and over.
The man removed items one by one.
Each time, he asked the cashier to swipe his card again. Still, it got declined. At that point, he realized that there’s no way he could pay for their groceries. The kids were obviously sad and uncomfortable while the dad looked quite embarrassed.
Before they could leave, Sara did the unthinkable.
“It was like a gentle shove on the back and a mild electric shock to my heart. Pay for these groceries. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the money…I’ll provide. Trust Me. I heard God loud and clear.”
She stepped in to help.
“I’ve got it,” Sara said.
At that point, the man turned to face her and his jaw dropped open. He couldn’t believe that a stranger was helping him with his groceries.
While the cashier was putting everything she removed from the man’s basket, he already had tears in his eyes. His daughter, on the other hand, wrapped her arms around his dad. It was a touching moment.
When Sara finished paying for her groceries, she realized that the family was waiting for her outside.
The man was still crying while hugging his kids. When they approached her, the man expressed his gratitude. He admitted that he’s a single dad and he struggles with it every day.
When Sara returned to her car, she started crying.
She prayed hard and thanked the Lord for letting her help other people. A sense of gratitude filled her.
After a couple of days, Sara met the family again.
This time, they saw each other in church. The pastor was about to preach when she saw the family. She felt happy that they seemed to be doing good despite their situation.
She found their reunion a bit surprising.
She never told them she was Christian. She didn’t even mention which church she goes to. They were all surprised to see each other that way. It was like God’s way of establishing a stronger bond between the families.
Being a single dad is nothing to feel ashamed of.
We all go through hard times and there’s nothing wrong with that. If you see someone struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out. Ask if there’s any way you can help them. Don’t hesitate if you know you have the ability to do something for others. Remember, in this world, we only have each other.
